western electric tubes

i i got a box of tubes today many of them are western electric with engraved bases. i found one batch that was kind of intersting they are 262A tubes i got a box of these only One has the Western electric engraved in the base. i looked them all over carefully and they are Completly identical in every way to the one that is marked the internal structure and everything except all the others have a etched number like X4-4-632 on the glass the last 3 digits are diffrent on every tube.

i also got a box of tubes with numbers like X57720 and X69892. these are 4 pin look very much like a 01a inside did western electric use that form of code on their tubes too. there are no other markings on glass or bases on these. just trying to figure out what they are.

here is the picture of the one that looks like a 01A.

anyone know what they are or equivalent too. im fairly sure they are WE made since they got the same coding as all the other WE marked tubes that came in this lot.

Interesting if they are O1a equivalents. Seldom actually see the insides of an 01a, the gettering is typically so heavy the tube is invisible. Could also be a 71, those look similar but are a power triode.

does anyone have a WE tube manual or anything that could help identify this tube. i checked out one site tubeworld.com i think but i could not find a picture of one that looked like that.

ive been told that these could be some form of WE 101 tube but as far as i have been able to find out they made them in ST and tennis ball shapes.

Would you like to borrow some punctuation?

Western made one-off tube lots for experimental usage. These might have been built for a new type of phone relay, etc. and not released for general use. They do have great collector interest and are rare. Value, who knows?

If you have a tester that tests early 4P's, verify all the pins are assigned like an O1A and see where this one measures. Be careful of the filament voltage though. I would probably start with the tester set well below the normal O1A voltage (5V) and see what it does. Maybe start out like a 26 instead.

i found a datasheet on a 101J and it looks very much like that. but the picture on there is a terrible black and white but it is a globe with the same structure. i have been able to find no other picture or info on 101J just the other 101 types. i did test one as a 01a i just did it with a 2v filament and they light up with no shorts. but i dont have the other dial settings i got a I-177B there is no data for the 101 series WE.

ltheres also alot of Weird rectifiers and stuff to that is marked WE. big globes and 2 pin tubes.
