Guys over on Speakers thread though this better suited for here: I've stumbled onto a pair a Wharfdale W90's. I want to pick them up just because it would be so cool to hear them, but I'm told they need some work. My question to anyone with knowledge of these is this: If they need parts and or repair, can it be done? Or is it going to similar to be the way someone with a 1959 Corvette Stingray must search high and low for the parts?
$150 asking price for this pair.

The price is VERY low. Not far off bare cabinets in nice shape. Just how much work is needed? Pics would help a lot!

All the pieces are out there without too much difficulty, but it depends how many drivers you need to replace. These have 6 drivers per cabinet. It can add up.

Going price in good shape (likely needing recap) is somewhere around $400.00 and up. I have a pair that I got with one dead woofer, for less than $300, and count myself lucky.

Also.....

If the issue is "non-working" speakers, you should get an ohmmeter (multi-meter) on each driver. The woofers run with inductors, and the mids and tweets through L-pads, and capacitors. The woofs can burn out with too much power. The mids and tweets might be fine, but the L-pads and caps can get dirty/go bad, and block signal. It takes a bit of effort to get at the mids/tweets. They're recessed behind two (upper) panels. These speakers are definitely worth the effort.

I'm sure I'll hate myself in the morning, but I passed on these Wharfedales. 2 mids and a woofer were out on one, one mid was out on the other. Plus there was an odd "add on" fuse screwed to the back of each speaker that was meant to go between the amp and the speaks.
Nice cabinets, yes. Plus, when we turned them on, I really got the silk tone of these units, but the rehab is just beyond my budget...
Someone else is making a 200 mile drive to see them later tonight....my guess is he's more into these than I am...
