I posted a while ago about buying a nearly new pair of these for $100, hooking them up and being a little disappointed with them, at least compared to the Elac Debut 6.2 speakers that I had recently bought (I did an all at once speaker upgrade type thing, and didn't have to spend much to do it!). Well, several weeks later and having played a fair amount of music through them, I've decided that they do indeed sound very good. It's likely a combination of the fact that I've gotten more accustomed to their sound and maybe even more importantly that they're more broken in, which is something that I understand these speakers really need.
I found the treble on these a little harsh at first and it seemed that they were pitched a bit to the treble - too much for my taste. Now I'm finding them smoother in the treble, though not as smooth as the Elacs (which I still prefer). I've noticed that the bass on these speakers is surprisingly rich for how tiny they are. Recordings with upright bass actually sound very nice on these. Overall, I feel like these speakers must have more of a "curve" than the Elacs as they seem to accentuate upper and low frequencies a bit, but this is maybe actually a good thing as I have these in a small home office/bedroom where I'm generally listening at quieter levels and the less flat frequency curve that these things seems to mean that they come alive at lower volumes.
I have the speakers on stands, set to either side of my desk and they sound good when I'm sitting in front of my computer, right near them, but I have decided that they sound even better further away as the bass and treble seem to blend more and there's less of that accentuated/harsh treble effect.
Anyway, I'd say that these are actually really nice speakers particularly for smaller rooms and lower volumes though they seem to sound pretty good cranked as well (up to a point). They're especially great considering the price point...
