I'm thinking about placing an order for a pair of 3-way Wharfelale Linton 85th Anniversay Speakers (with stands) from Music Direct. I really don't know anything about the brand, but I see where those who used to dislike the brand have issued posts reconsidering their previously negative comments and reversed their views to positive.
I will be connecting these to my McIntosh 4300V Receiver, and the thing is very powerful, so I worry about listening a low levels, despite using the 'loudness control'. Famed Terry DeWitt "clocked" it at 0.01 THD at 100W.
I only want to spend about $1,500-$2,000 for a pair of new speakers and new MAC speakers are outside of my budget. Vintage ones would need work and I don't want to go that route. I foolishly sold my MAC XR5's because they were just too large and overwhelming.
Any comments would be helpful.
Incidentally, I actually own TWO 4300V's and my second one was lacking the HR 4300 remote control. These are virtually nowhere to be found. Ryan at Audio Classics oversaw reconfiguring a MAC HR 7 remote for me and it works great with the receiver!
I cannot say enough good things about Audio Classics.
Momentary tac switches (push buttons) are also a hot, sought-after item and apparently also nowhere to be found, as Gail at McIntosh in Binghamton says the manufacturer went out of business.
Does anyone know who made these switches for MAC back in the day?
Thank-you!
