Hi Jomel, quick update for you. So I've replaced mid and bass drivers and the Linton xp2's sound great. I think I'll enjoy them for a while before I replace any capacitors. Out of curiosity do you know which components I should replace if I choose to do so (from the attached photos) ?

Hi sj.brodie! The components you might want to change are the capacitors, cause in time thwy are the ones to lose their accuracy, sound wise. But at the moment if it is sounding well just enjoy it.
From my experience vintage whatfedale will improve their sound if you use Paper in Oil capacitors/ PIO ( those russian ones). I’ve used 160v that sounded good, but based on your crossover it probably wont fit cause them russian PIOs are big. You can use Alcap electrolytics from Falcon accoustics, buy some with same capacitance( mfd/ uf), 100v. It wll just sound fine

I just did a Wharfedale Triton recap using PIO caps, but what i did was soldered an extra wire so it can me attached/ soldered to the crossover, ill take picture of it and i’ll
post it so you’ll understand what i mean

Hi sj.brodie as promised here’s what i’ve done to the crossover network of wharfedale triton that i just restoref.
It’s hard yo take picture from my phone cause i only have the fron camera clear, the back camera is blurred. So i have to do a bit of selfie

The 0.047uf 160v wima capacitor is just out of curiousity i just added it to the x2 2uf PIO capacitors (2uf 160v x2= 4 uf 160v) thats for the tweeter caps. The result is so good! The highs are clear and crisp, im listening to earl klugh “across the sands” at the moment, and the bass is not muddled,, so clear

The original values of wharfedale triton
4uf 50v =replaced with x2 2uf PIO russian caps 160v with extra 0.047uf 160v wima pio( parallel connection)
8uf 50v= replaced with x2 4uf 160v PIO(parallel)
25uf 50v= 22uf 100v F&T non polar electrolytic+ 2.7uf 250v Mundorf M-cap polypropylene
50uf 50v= 47uf 100v F&T electrolytic +2.2 uf 100v REC electrolytic. I am very happy with the result.
One thing to keep in mind when recapping,,, trust your ears with the results. I’m no expert but i can attest the result is sooo good. I am using Sansui AU 555A amplifier that i also recapped with Nichicon capacitors, and playing CDs with NAD cd player and Technics SL 1500 with stanton 500 II cartridge.
Don’t be agraid to experiment on caps, you can always replace it uf the result is not good. That’s what this hobby ( obsession!!!! LOL) is all about

The combination of F&T electrolytic and Mundorf polypropylene capacitors for the mid is surprisingly great, vocals are clear and F&T +REC caps for bass is so smooth, nothing really weong with experimentation!!! I’m listening to Filipino folk songs now, Guitars/ violin/ drums/ flute/vocals are so clear!!!
I will recap my KEF concerto next time using combination of electrolytic and polypropylene caps for mids and low.... soooo satisfied or just my ears!!!

Health for all.
Recently got this acoustics. The sound was very bad. The reason is the rubber suspension. Dry and very hard. Lubricated the rubber on both sides with brake fluid DOT4. After 2 days lubricated with glycerin, the rubber is a bit softer. The sound became listenable.
In Melton 2 classic crossover - parallel. Want to do later sequential.

Hi Jomel. After quite a bit of trial and error practicing on a spare board, I finally completed a recap on an old pair of wharfedales and thankfully the speakers sound fine. Think I'm noticing more clarity already from these classic British speakers. Thanks for the guidance on here

Sj.brodie, look for sansui amplifier it’s the best pair for wharfies, these wharfies speakers don’t need high power amps, rather they like tubes.
I gave my Melton and Dovedale to my brother back in Philippines. And sent him my AU 555A sansui with faulty phono stage, ,,,,BUT i sent him a Project Tube Pre-amp,” man his in cloud nine
