Wharfedale Owners Thread

Saw a set of w90s on marketplace and picked them up. They are a bit beat and I’ll need to replace the fabric but having refinished a few console stereos that is in my wheelhouse.

They sound fantastic as is but I’ll be pulling the backs off and making sure everything is up to par for the extended use. These will be paired with a fisher x100 and a yet to be found record changer.
Congrats on your find! I have two pairs of W70's and they are just barely manageable in terms of weight. Wouldn't ever get rid of them. They sound great.

Seeking clarification, designed in Great Britain but made in China still count as British? I have a pair of Wharfedale Diamond 225 scheduled to arrive on Tuesday.

Wondering if anyone has surveyed the present scene of Wharfedales being presently made and offered by this company name being used with the product now being manufactured in China.

It's interesting how the people who were initially part of the original team are being used in the advertising of this well known speaker from the past.

If one has the chance, take a look-see on the efforts to date on the new owners.

Yes, it’s like so many companies that are bought and sold just for the name. Sad and yet some eventually end up in the hands of owners who seem to truly endeavor to live up to their heritage. Anyway, I’ve read good things about these little bookshelf speakers, and needing a pair, thought I would give them a try.

Same thing happened to the Brit "Quad" electronic firm. Now the rights/name/design owned by the Chinese.

Haven't heard/read any reaction to the new "Quad" units being created. I've the older 33 pre and 405 amp and think they still do a great job at hand!

So, two days late, but who’s counting. Wharfedale diamond 225s (walnut) arrived a couple of hours ago. I unpacked, inspected and set them up on shelves for a quick listen and test run. Associated gear: SL1200 Mk2, Grado Platinum, Marantz 2240 and some rather old Monster Cable - 12ga. I think. I played Trio (Parton, Harris & Ronstadt) the whole album; Cold Blood’s eponymous album, selected cuts only and side one of Hotel California. I’m pleased. Not as large a sound as my JBLs, but a more than satisfactory replacement for the AR-6s I sold a while back. A few more hours and I think these will open up nicely. I have some rearranging to do.

I have just purchased a pair of EVO 4.2 speakers and I'm waiting for delivery, but I would like to hear from owners who have been using them for some time and what they honestly think of them, also how do they compare to the Diamond 225s?

I have just purchased a pair of Wharfedale EVO 4.2 speakers, and I don't know if I like them or not. I got them as an upgrade to my 225s ( which I love ), They are supposed to be bookshelf speakers, but they are big and heavy, and you would need a reinforced shelf to put these on, I would not call them beautiful, infact they are odd-looking and I was offered an excellent discount as they were white, I wish they had a nice wood grain finish instead, but here they are and I am trying to adapt to them, I showed them to my wife and her comment was " they are ugly and wont match the furniture ".
I have yet to play them, so they had better be good.

Can you take them back? Generally if they don't works looks wise you'll never be happy regardless of how they sound.

Hello everyone, does anybody know what size screw on the speaker connectors on the dovedales made in Hong Kong?? I'm wanting to replace with some proper binding post

Hi all, I haven't posted for a while, still enjoying my W70e's and W2's. I recently picked up some very poor looking Glendale 2XP's, not expecting much sonically from them, 80's era isn't really my thing, but WOW I am very impressed. Trouble is they have those square fronted alloy driver designs and the alloy is really tarnished and pitted. Has anyone had any success cleaning them up? Any tips before I try? Thanks in advance

Hi,
I just purchased a pair of W60E’s. I pulled a tweeter and they appear to have the white rock wool insulation inside. I can see corrosion on the back of the tweeter, which I believe might be coming from that insulation. I’m going to open them up and go through the crossovers and check them out. Should I keep that rock wool or replace it with something else? What’s the general knowledge about how to install installation in these speakers?
Thank you
Rich
