Yesterday I just bought a pair of W60E's.

I will need to find the gold metal frame for one of them.

LOVE this thing... I'm guessing it was a Heathkit cab, but that's just a guess. If I see anything in the one of the old brochures, I'll let you know (unless you know already).

I want a pair of Super 3's someday... I've heard some say it was the best-sounding full-ranger they ever heard, although viewpoints are subjective for a reason...

How would you characterize it sonically in comparison to one of your W70's?

By the way, that Opus 2-1 in the above post is 2-COOL...

I think Sunbeam is right... Tafsound (who probably hasn't posted here in the last 5 years) seems to know what he's talking about (My sources must have had their heads up their rear-vent because the only Rosedales I can find on Goggle appear to be W70E's... at least the ones where they also describe them as a W70 variation a la W70C, W70D, W70E... ).

Here's Tafsound's quote:

Listening to the super 12 as I type this. The guy I bought it from was the orig owner. He bought in 55 or was it 58 and it's a 55 model... You are prob right it's not a wharfedale cab. Maybe I can email him.

The w70s def are a bit warmer than the bozaks I run in the same system. The super 12 seems pretty accurate as opposed to bright or warm. Will give that some thought.

gorgeous cabinets on those w90s!

guess i need to learn how to refinish wood so i can redo my w70s. i've been using howards restora-finish and feed and wax but that treatment did not do much w/ the wood on the w70s.

i looked at my old emails w/ the seller of my super 12. he bought it in 55 from a local (DC area) hi fi shop. was TOTL back then. i'll email him and see if he knows the make of the cabinet.

This thread definitely needs more activity. I can't believe Wharfedales aren't getting the love on this forum!

I am also a Wharfedale owner. And yes, I love them. They haven't been getting much use lately, but they are about to. I am about to recap my Kef Concerto's. I've got ESS AMT 1s where the Concerto's were, but I find them lacking a bit in midrange, and I think the Wharfedales will sound much better there. It isn't the best location for speakers, but its the only place I can put them in that room.

They are Dovedale 3s, and they sound so beautiful. I'll post pictures the next time I come by.

Does anyone have any details, history, etc on these beautiful speakers? I would love to know more about them.

I also have a set of Denton 3, I think. One tweeter was blown, so I took them apart. I am going to save the good tweeter for my Dovedales, which I will hopefully never need.

Only ones I have are the S55's....not pretty and desirable like the ones listed so far.

My Dovedale 3's are identical to the ones Gangtwanger has photographed :)

I agree with others, they do sound good (and measurably better than my Goodmans Magnums, though less efficient).

The bass rolls off very gently (trait of the seale 12in woofer in a barely big enough enclosure), makes for nice in room response.
Can also go louder than my Goodmans Mangnums without audible distortion.

And to help with the confusion... Here's a brochure for the earlier Dovedale (no number). Notice the difference in the design and the alnico woofer (I think the tweeter has a ceramic magnet).

Wharfedale W60d

Gee,this is good ! A British Audio Section and within...A Wharfedale section..super....as an observant fellow (not) I didn't know this page existed.
Anyways...
As detailed over in the speakers section,I bought a pair of Wharfedale W60d's on Ebay,had them shipped to me here in Australia and sadly the tweeters on both boxes (purple fried egg) are not working..
I've been in contact with the seller and he wants to see that I am happy.Today he sent me details of a pair of Purple Mylar tweets and I think he maybe wants to supply me with those..
What I'd like to know please ....
1. Are these Mylar Jobs the same as the 'fried eggs' ? ... and...
2. Do they give the sound characteristics as each other.. and ..
3.Would the Mylar tweets be a suitable/worthy replacement for the'eggs' ?
