Wharfedale W-90 speakers

Hopefully, Gang-Twanger or other Wharfaholics can clue me in on the various W-90 versions.

I see several different cabinet versions, and 2 different back panel types.
I know that Wharfedale had 2 different speaker versions over the years. with red alnico magnet
or a ceramic magnet.

Do the dual solid back models have the red Alnicos and the half solid half vented backs the ceramics??
Some that I've seen have a vent tube for the woofers. Do we have a thread for these??

There are some great threads on them over in the British audio section. Wharfedale was all over the map with their versions of models.

There's not much rhyme or reason to it. Ceramic drivers started showing up in late '63, early '64. W90s from those times can either have Alnico, Ceramic, or a mixture of both. For example one of my W90s dated for late '63 had Alnico woofers but ceramic mids and tweeters. My other W90 dated in mid 64 had all ceramic.

The earliest examples of the W90 had all Alnico I believe. Those are the gold Super 3s and I'm not sure what the Alnico midrange drivers looked like.

As far as the cabinets go, that I don't know much about.

In short, I wouldn't place much stock into some sort of consistency in terms of driver loads and cabinets, Wharfedale seemed to use whatever was lying around and could get the job done.
