Wharfedale W40 second generation?

I just picked up a pair of these on the cheap when buying some albums. I had originally requested advise on what caps to buy but the guy I bought my receiver from gave me all the answers that I needed.

Since ther is so little information out there on these I was curious if anyone had a good date range for the ones I have? I'm guessing maybe sometime in the 80s. Image links below.

Well I got my new Solen capasitor's today and went ahead and switched them out. I also found 2 separate OEM tweeters but only one has shipped and arrived. I can't believe the difference in the sound from before and now. Even though these are a second/third?? series of the W40's it appears that the sound is similar to the originals in so far as the mid's and high's are absolutely fantastic where the bass can't take much at all without distorting. So I've decided to pair with my run of the mill Pioneer's to get the extra bass punch that suits my wife and my tastes. Any other advise you could give for me to get some extra bass without distortion would be greatly appreciated. I still need to play around with getting them up off the floor and positioned just right but that will have to wait until I get my gameroom finished.

I still don't have a good date range for the build of these speakers, so I guess I'll try to reach out to Wharfedale themselves and see if they can tell me.

Those remind me a lot of the E- series of Wharfedales. Modern looking cab, front ported, same woofer, similar mid, front tone controls. I bet they are efficient and loud. IF you like them search out some E series models.

Yes they seem to be very efficient and loud and I really like them. I am running them off of a Pioneer SX 636 and Technics SL 1200 mk2 TT. I went ahead and hooked up my powered Polk sub-woofer that I have for my HT setup, inline with one of the speakers and it added the bass that I was looking for. Now I can back the bass off the Wharfedale's and let them do what they do best.
The 2nd tweeter that I purchased said that it was out of a Dynaphase Model 112 which after doing some research was re-branded by Wharfedale for certain stores. All the components that the guy has for sale from the Dynaphase are exactly the same as my speakers. I'll be sure to check out the E series and see what they are all about. I'm new to the vintage audio world and am trying to make up for what I couldn't afford as a youth. Not going to spend a ton of money mind you, just want the quality over quantity and there is just something about walking up and putting a record on to play.
