wharfedale w70 - high end missing what could be wrong?

Hi to everyone. I have 2 sets of speakers hooked up to a pilot 240 integrated.. On my ads l520 I can hear a set of snare drums that are just not there on the wharfedale w70's. i had been told the w70's had been recapped before I bought them, Is this just the design of the speaker, or should they be comparable to the l520'S. Should I bbe able to hear the snares on the Wharfedales as well

Put your ears up to them. You should also hear things like the cymbal clashes but I think the snares and cymbals are more of the midrange maybe? :dunno:

Check both mids and tweets.
 
Which W70? Early ones don't have the purple egg tweeter which probably added high end to the speakers.
 
You can also check the tweeters for continuity / resistance with the ohm meter function of a multimeter.

Since the W70 tweeters are usually in a box of their own, you could test at the leads coming out of the box to the crossover on the back panel. (Will have to temporarily desolder)

the other thing is to check the adjustment knob on the back. There may be one or two. (Mid and high)

These potentiometers have a habit of failing and can be cleaned, replaced or bypassed.

I’d recommend bypassing them and making your adjustments with your tone controls, if necessary.
 
After making sure the tweeters are working I don't think the Wharfes are going to have the detail and clarity of ADS.Still you should hear the higher frequencies to some degree.
 
turn down the bass and mid controls all the way at your receiver-pre-amp ect.. and the mid control on the speakers if they have them. leave just the treble control on. play some music with high frequency information in it and turn the treble control back and forth. You should be able to hear the difference if its working.
