What a Freakin Joke!

Hey GF,
I'm always open to a good deal on some Klipsch's, but I do have my eye on another pair on eBay right now. I just bought a SPEC 2 amp and need some speakers to handle all that power. ;)

Hey Thor,
You aint just whistlin dixie on the packing the speakers. To make some room for more toys , I've sold 8 pairs in the last six months and like I said in an earlier post, I rolled out the red carpet for the two guys who did pick ups......

I feel your pain on the shipping of speakers. I have some that I need to sell but have been holding off as I don't want the hassle of packing them.

I feel that "in person" pick-ups serve both buyer and seller well. Nothing like being able to verify performance and condition with ones own eyes from the buyers standpoint. From the sellers standpoint, nothing like being able to say, "That scratch was not on the piece", or, "If it didn't work flawlessly when it left my home YOU wouldn't have purchased it!"

Aside from the occasional Cro-Magnon type that may show up at the door (only one so far in my experiences), it's a good way to meet new and interesting folks who share the passion. I too roll out the red carpet, to the point of buying lunch if it's lunchtime, or inviting the buyer to a sit down dinner with The Jersey Grand's if it is dinner time.

Lastly, yes, they DO save me the hassle of packing and shipping, regardless of the size of the item. Life is too short.

Thor,

Little trick I learned.....

most people can't eat after hearing the Carver Amazing's OR the old Acoustic Research Model 9's. Some can't talk.

Aren't you scared that what you are selling will sound like **** after the Amazings, or do you listen to the "For Sale" item 1st?

ABSOLUTELY Thatch. I learned that a long time ago. If somebody is coming over to buy SPEAKERS, I get that sale out of the way before giving Amazing auditions.

When I originally got into this hobby, Cornwalls were my dream speaker and I was on the hunt for some until I went into this guys dusty attic...................

With all the Ebay sales I've had, only very few have been picked up.

One such occasion, was for a SX880 Pioneer receiver. The guy came over, and actually ran it for quite a while, playing with all the knobs, etc, etc....

Well, to make it short, about 3 months later he called and said it wasn't working right, and wanted me to pay a repair bill to get something fixed. It was more than he paid for the Pioneer. ???

The acution was sold "AS IS", ... it wasn't one I had worked on, or done anything to, just over stock I was cleaning out. The auction said the same.

Sorry, no can do on the repair work.
Especially when he checked it out in person, and it worked fine. I have no idea what he did with it for 3 months.

It's one of the hazards playing with vintage stuff.

I have never sold a single thing on e-bay. I put a LARGE addition on this house in 1999. The entire extravaganza was paid for by audio sales.

I can understand the "As-IS" policy loud and clear, in regard to "business" type transactions. There is a small circle of friends and repeat customers to whom I offer an ironclad, no questions asked, 30 day money back guarantee (or replace with another item of similar quality/performance, their choice).

Selling/buying on Ebay

Ebay will make your hair grow and it will eat your lunch as well. I love the buyers who beg you to bend the rules to accomidate them then when they get the item they want to return it or keep it and still get a refund. I love their statement "Not the ebay way of doing things". . . .

a new spin on things

Well, bottom line, the way I see it is these speakers are sitting in his store collecting dust. $600 for them is better than a BIG FAT GOOSE EGG that aint making him any money.
Now, if it was me, I would have said, "sure, come and get 'em", bit the bullet on the tax collected, and whatever's left over goes into the till, and the buyer is happy and tells his buddies.
In the end everybody's happy, and I take my wife out to a nice dinner.
That's the way I would do it.;)
