What a long strange trip it's been

Are we talking about Bob Carver? There must be a mistaken identity or something going on here. I've seen Bob's work before and that's not what it looks like.

Doesn't McShane sell a rebuild kit for those that an ordinary DIY can do. I found the correct speaker strips for the one I did, and probably have a handful left. I think the minimum buy was a bunch. This is the one amp design that I didn't feel needed any modifying past Cree diodes, and good coupling caps.

I was under the 'impression' that the p supply work was completed by Bob Carver and do not know if the work was completed someone who bought a kit & installed it. I was led to believe by Michael, that he is 'secretive' about the mod. It's quite involved & should NOT be attempted by amateurs. I do apologize to him if I am misinformed.

I suggest you email Michael for clarification..

I am not picking on the blind. Please don't take that the wrong way. It is just so poorly done it looks as though the person did not know what they were doing and can not tell the difference between good and bad

I have a suspicion that Bob Carver himself did not do the work. Perhaps someone working at his place did it.

Unfortunately, I do not have any photos of the amp's guts before and after it was sent for the KT120 mods. I'm going to bring the original schematics to Phil this evening...
If I can dig up anything else from it's prior incarnations, I'll post em.
I want to thank Phil in advance for his expertise and patience.
I'm going to have to moonlight!
Mike

Phil and Mike,
This amp would have had the bias circuitry modified by carver to allow the use of the KT120s. The details of that mod can found at the http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/citationsound/ group. I'd recommend signing up to be a member. It is a wealth of information. If you don't want to or cant get to the files let me know and i'll send you the files associated with the details of the mod.

Reply: The worthless Carver Mod (my opinion) does nothing to help the mains trafo filament supply to provide the additional current necessary to drive KT120 tubes safely without damage to the trafo.
