What a new slab of vinyl should be

I picked up a sealed copy of Johnny Cash at San Quentin (Columbia) recently, I'm not yet absolutely certain it is an original pressing but I think so. I went ahead and opened it today, what great fun to make that slit on a 40+ year old album. :D

Anyhow, the point is that I was just really impressed with the quality of the pressing. There's not a smudge or fingerprint or any mark to be found on the surface, and it is as flat and centered as it can be. Perhaps most impressive is how quiet it is, even in the deadwax. There are many low volume passages on this album where Cash is speaking or the band is playing softly and there are absolutely NO crackles or pops to be heard.
The quality control during the pressing process of this album is very evident, especially and unfortunately compared to some of the new pressings I've come across. It just really reminded what a vinyl record is supposed to look and sound like.

Was that recording made in the '50s? 1950s albums are often really nicely pressed. Consider yourself to be doubly lucky that it was sealed!
