What about Dahlquist DQ-20i, DQ-30?

I have never heard them only good things about them. I do know the always seem to bring alot of money.

All I know is that the taller they are the more aestheically pleasing they look. Hope someone can clue me in on the sound.
 
I know a guy near DC looking to sell some DQ30is or trade for DQ20s. He is supposed to be listing them soon on CL, I believe. If anyone is intersted, i'll make sure he gets them posted.
 
Never heard 30's. 20's are fine speakers- less difficult to drive than 10's, but great imaging speakers, still need a larger room to bring out their best.
 
What I have heard said... SAID mind you, by more than 1 source, is that the 10s are nicer than the 20s.. and no comment relative to the 30s.. Not sure that helps.. 20s usually bring $500 to $700

I just added DQ-10's to my stable, so I'll be able to do some direct A/B tests with my DQ-20i.

They're worlds and decades different--it's most likely a case of preferred musical style. We'll see, I make no predictions that would be 'illogical'.

Or aesthetics...the 20/20i's are upright (that aspect ratio would be 'Portrait').

Spotted a pair of DQ-20i at a local thrift today. Other than being familiar with the name through AK, Dahlquist is a brand that I have no familiarity with.

Off-white grille cloth edged in oak on either side, look more neglected than beat up. I think the dual pairs of binding posts with straps means they're bi-amped? I've been looking here at AK, but not sure what the value would be. They're asking $250, so somebody there knows that they're more than just some unusual looking speakers that they need to move out quickly.

Is this a good price? Should these replace my Marantz HD-880s? Pretty subjective question, I know.
 
I like DQs, so for me, I'd go for it. Very different sound than those Marantzii, which were an answer to the 'west-coast' JBL 100, and used the same designer (May?).

If your source and amp is at least on the road to higher-end, the DQ's will sound much more natural and life-like. The Maranzes will have more, not better, bass.

Yes the dual posts give you options for biwiring, not as sure about biamping, although I've tried it, it's not always an improvement unless you bypass the crossovers, and go active.
 
i have the 10's, 20's & 30's . the 30's paint a bigger picture. very nice sounding. i will be selling all the above.

I can't recall exactly what Dahlquist models I've heard, because it's been so long. But I know it was several of these classic models being discussed and they all sounded good.

I would say they're worth $250.
