What about L-07CII preamp?

Hi everyone

I have read many comments by Akers about the L-07M or L-07MII or the
L-09M but never about the L-07C or L-07CII preamp.
Does anyone here have used one ?
I would love to hear your comments about it.

As you may see in my avatar, thats the one i use with my two L-07MII. I'm pretty satisfied with it but i wander if someone prefered another preamp with the L-07MII or L-07M.

The L-07C II is discussed here on AK.The consensus that I've seen,is that the Mk II is the one to get.
 
L07cII

My experience with the L07cII is that they sound very very good when they are ok.

The bad thing is, they are very different from eachother, i have had 6 or 7 of them and they all sound different.

the ones that have sounded best so far is the models sold in sweden/finland/norway, they differ from the europeen models and they have as far as i can understand not the same powersupply as the european.

i dont know if its the powersupply that makes the difference or something else that is also different. (the european model has switched ac outlets on the back)

i have one european that have gone threw a full restore with blackgate caps etc, it sound very clean and there is nothing i can complain about, but my other L7cII still sound better.

i only have experience with the European and north European sold units.

i had a L07c to once, they are not as nice looking but somehow i miss it, they are very robustly built and i will probably get one again.

I have used an accuphase c200 pre amp with my L07Mii amps . i have also used a Luxman C1010. Honestly you would have to have pretty keen hearing to detect much of a differencebetween these two. it would depend on the speakers as well i suppose
 
I think I may have written this before, but I’m happy to share my opinion again.

First of all, these units are now 45 to 50 years old, so they definitely need to be fully refurbished.

When I refurbish these preamplifiers, I do a very extensive overhaul of the power supply. After that, there are no longer any country-specific differences. Using SiC diodes in the rectifier section, along with a different and higher-quality selection of capacitors, makes an audible improvement to the power supply.

One thing I cannot change is the copper bottom plate found on some of the L-07C II units. The units with the copper bottom plate sound better than those with a steel bottom plate.

As for the different versions of the MC stage output, I always upgrade them to the latest version. To my ears, that version sounds the best.

The L-07C sounds a little more forgiving and smoother.
The L-07C II sounds a little more neutral and honest, with just a touch more dynamic range.

I have a l-07c and think it is very nice. The double sided boards can be difficult if you need to fix one.

I'm hoping once they work, no additional work is needed and they are reliable.

I haven't compared it to a l-07cii. I think either would be nice.

I'm glad Richard posted something. His posts on a german forum is a great reference.
