What am I doing wrong?

kaplang

Works for me !
When I put "C26" into search engine I get zero results. This does not make sense to me because the C26 is a Mcintosh preamp and I would think there are several topics that would have C26 imbedded. If I put "Mcintosh C26" in the search engine I get results. What am I doing wrong?

I am using a iPad II

C26 can refer to many, many things. Only in places like Audiokarma do people think "Mcintosh stereo equipment" when they see "C26."

So you are not doing anything wrong - except maybe mistaking your own picture of the world for Google's.

On a lot of sites, you have to search for a term of a certain length, and it's usually longer than 3 characters. C26 is too short, but you can Google search the site and get hits for C26.

He's talking about the AK search engine, not Google. And while we are talking about Google, when you click search, use "Search AK with Google". The built-in Vbulletin search function never worked right on this version, not just here but everywhere.

no argument there. The VB search engine sucks. I admin a VB board, and I've never found it at all impressive. Its slow and misses a lot. I really need to do the "search with google" thing. Our board is getting large enough that the lack of effective search is becoming an issue. I just need to get myself in the right frame of mind to sit down and fool with it.

You need it to redirect to Google. If you want to use Google to search on a specific site, you can enter site:www.sitehere.com, followed by your search term. That will search for your search term on that site only.
So, if you want to search for C26 on AK this way, you enter "site:www.audiokarma.org C26" into Google.

I tend to use the Advanced Search, but it too will not search 3 character strings. However you can enter "McIntosh C26" in quotes and it will search for that whole phrase.

Three characters - no go.

Truth.

We have our own Google search in the dropdown search menu.

The problem with "McIntosh C26" is that the posters in the McIntosh forum so seldom type "McIntosh". Either "Mac", or the brand is tacit.

Yes, I am aware of this, I even mentioned it:

I was just giving advice to gadget73 on how that system works, if he wants to implement it in his forum.

if you were to use regular google as in a new tab/window ... search something like "c26 audiokarma " http://lmgtfy.com/?q=c26+audiokarma it should find plenty of hits ... if you were to search including a posters name it should find the threads where they posted .. http://lmgtfy.com/?q=kaplang+audiokarma
"site:audiokarma.org C26" would still be better, because you only get results from Audiokarma. But, like luvvinvinyl and I have pointed out, the Search with Google function does just that.
