What are some good options?

I stumbled upon them at the capital audiofest, they’re one of the better speakers I've heard. There’s a guy over at the Asylum that bought the demo pair. His thread is in the high efficiency threads. I think they’re just something to listen to before you pick. They’ll at very least make you a more discriminating buyer...
 
I wonder if ProAc has something in their line. I'm a planar guy, but I found their largest D48R (the "R" is for the ribbon tweeter) gave planars a run for their money, and had surprising bass for two 6.5" woofers. They have smaller models like the D20R and a new DT8 floorstander that they call an "entry level" speaker. They might be worth a listen. The DT8 shows response to be 28Hz to 30,000Hz.

Their D Two caught my eye, and the reviews make it sound somewhat forgiving of placement.

If you are interested in planar speakers, check out the Mini Maggie System. http://www.magnepan.com/model_mini_maggie

These speakers seem to be a good solution for small rooms where space is at a premium. Their website says they are "well-suited for near-field listening in a VERY small room." My office is a bit bigger than OP's and I am very satisfied with my MMG speakers and subwoofer.

As I mentioned earlier, the Jamos were picked up by flippers during a crazy Amazon sale, I was able to grab five pair. They show up from time to time on eBay until the flippers run out of stock. These were just posted and the seller has them in high gloss white, and the coveted real mahogany veneer.

A few years back I was in a similar situation Have you considered the Salk Songtower? Great imaging, not too picky about placement (close to wall/corner) and might be the bass you are looking for in a small room. I went with something else but might work for you.

ETA: Would be hard to pass up the JAMO at that price. Excellent recommendation.

Thanks. I saw a pair on eBay for $645, too, which are on my watchlist.
 
I know this is way under-budget, but may be worth a look. Klipsch RB-61 II. Good down to 45Hz (-3dB) AND 95dB sensitivity. Front ported, so not very placement-critical. Replaced by RP-160m model, so there are lots of dealer demos and NOS of the RB-61's out there anywhere from $250-375/pr.

You don't want to know what I paid for mine lol.

During these sales the other Jamo models were also being discounted. Really wanted a pair of the C-109's, actually purchased a pair but changed my mind as they were in the gloss white and just wouldn't work with my decor. With a MSRP of $4500, paying $398 free shipping got to me. Thought about flipping them but at 160lbs it just seemed like too much work if I wasn't going to keep them so canceled the order.

Another member posted about these sales, someone here grabbed a pair of the C-109's in white, took me three months of checking the site to catch one of the sales (they only lasted a few minutes). I still check back from time to time but haven't seen another sale in some time now so........but I still look in lol.

Great suggestion, awesome little speaker, but currently Amazon is offering the bigger brother RB-81 II for less money. Still a small speaker but with a bit more heft where it counts.

Damned--that is a "steal" on those--going to order a pair to play with. Basically the same as the RB-61, just a little bigger. Low end rolls of @44Hz (rather than 45Hz), but efficiency jumps to 97dB.

I was already looking to snag a pair of RB-61's this week or next anyways, so I can't pass on these.

EDIT--the bubble just burst--that price is EACH--not a pair like the RB-61's, but still not a bad deal at $500/pr.

Damn, didn't catch that in the add, I hate when they do that. I see now at the top of the ad in parentheses it says (each). Must be a Klipsch thing, they now own Jamo and the C-109's and some others are priced this way. That makes the price of the Jamo C103's all that much more attractive.

If considering the Jamos, keep in mind they take about 100hrs to break in. Right out of the box they image like mother f.....s, exaggerated actually and right in your face with boomy bass response. But not to worry they begin to show signs of mellowing at about 50hrs, then really come into their own at 100.

I'm running them with twin Dayton subs, but they're really just icing on the cake. When first connected I didn't realize the subs were off, with their close proximity to the sidewalls as my surround mains the bass was startlingly impressive, I can only imagine the impact of the C-109's as mains.

Yeah--I like the deal on Ebay right now for those Jamo's, but I want to use them in a spare bedroom system, and I'm not running much power in there (75 wpc SS integrated), and they appear to want some juice, based on the specs--and I am contemplating an even lower-powered tube system for in there, so the Klipsch are looking pretty attractive for their efficiency.
