What are the best bookshelf speakers on my local CL for $50?

I'd be all over the pair of KEF C-35s that pops up at the top of the list.

Though not spectacular, they do image quite well. And for 50 bucks!

But...

I know you said bookshelf speakers and less than $50, but if these were in my neck of the woods, I'd have them in the back of my truck already.....

The KEFs are the only ones even mildly interesting. I would keep looking--I just snagged a real nice pair of AR 4X for a couple more bucks than your limit of $50. Two months ago, a pair of KLH model 32 came up for $20; the guy and I started chatting about retirement and he gave them to me for free. I re-capped them and they're wonderful. Paying it forward I guess.
 
I believe many on this site approach speakers the way some approach food: sometimes I like chili, other times I like salmon, but both are great....I live in a rural area, so very little shows up on "the list," but if I had the choices that you have I don't what I would do. Main point is that there is no perfect sound, no perfect speaker, but instead a wonderful, inspiring, sonic journey to take. Pick one, buy it, enjoy it, and next time you have fifty bucks get another pair and dig them too.
But, if it were me, I'd grab those KEF's...like right this minute.
