Picked these up at a yard last weekend . I know nothing about them . They do function but need surrounds . The grills have EV badges . The back plate says electro-voice .made for sterling sound . EVS 1600 .12 inch woofer.4ish inch mid and a 2ish inch tweeter. I guess my question is . are they worth putting surrounds on . Ive got 6 dollars vested so far. anyone have any info?

Those are very nice Peerless tweeters and that mid looks very competent, Phillips brand? I think with a refoam and possibly recapping, you could be very impressed. And they're EVs! Do it :thmbsp:

Should be. Yes the Peerless AlNiCo cones - which EV used on some consumer systems in the '70s is a nice driver. I doubt that the MR is a Philips... but maybe.
EV sold a range of home speakers under various but similar names. There was also an EV-16 or EVS-16, and also an EV ETR-16. If you look carefully through the "discontinued products" docs archive at the electrovoice site, you should find something similar to yours.

Actually, I think that's Peerless mid also. It has the same impedance print on the front that I've seen on Peerless tweeters.

If you see that type printing on the front of a speaker cone, regardless of type or size, it's almost a lock that it's Peerless...

Thanks for your input, I refoamed the EVs this morning.waited until tonight to build a fire under them .WOW ! It took them a couple of hours of Wakeman ,But they really came to life. They aren't the best ive heard , but far better than most. of course everything is relative.Thanks again for everyones input
