What are these? JBL? Please help identify.

Just picked up these cabinets each with a JBL LE14A, LE20, and LX8 crossover. When I purchased them I jumped the gun and thought they might be a Lancer but I now think they are a custom cabinet. Do they look familiar to anyone? There is no tag on the back panels or inside. Help, I can't sleep.

Very close if not the same cab

[/IMG] I was thinking they are the same cabs with slightly different lattice grills and my pair has a large rectangler opening at the base for a large horn and a 15" center cut for the main speaker, I am clueless of the make for the fact I bought mine as empty cabs. I am thinking JBL with yours having the badge and the JBL's. Very nice!:thmbsp:
 
Barzilay Cabinets

Filled with JBL drivers and crossovers.Barzilay made the cabinetry and sold them to people that wanted to fit them to their own budget and taste.It's kinda unusual to see the JBL badges mounted to the cabinets.

Thanks guys! I thought the same thing about the JBL badges. They just didn't look correct. Oh, I forgot to mention that the driver, Xover setup is the "S-12" but most of you probably knew that.

Apparently the only/correct replacement for the Lansaloy is simply foam? Anyone have insight on this? I would like to do it myself but don't want to jeopardize the integrity of the drivers. I have considered Loyd at Spectrum Sound in St. Louis but still, I would really enjoy them more if I do them myself. I'm simply afraid of their integrity and re-sale value if I don't do them right. Anyone have any insight on this? I'm typically pretty good at this, except for the knowledge of what foams to buy. I typically rely on others to tell me which foams are going to be an exact fit. Also, I've seen debates on whether to mount the new surround on the front or back of the cone of the LE14A. If I remember correctly, I think someone said that JBL's replacement surround was intended to be mounted on the rear even though the Lansaloy was mounted on top? Is this correct? Plus, I'm kind of intimidated by that black rubber ring above the Lansaloy, attached to the basket. Does this come off or must I perform surgery around it?

LE14's are a unique size. The only surrounds that fit them are made specifically for those woofers and nothing else. Attach them to the front of the cones, like the originals. The rubber ring will pry out easily, but there will be Lansaloy residue on it that can be removed with an Xacto knife.
 
Not a great starter refoam, but do-able. See if there are any experienced AKers around, or do a LOT of reading to see different procedures.
 
Thanks a lot guys. I appreciate all of the info.

Although I'm no stranger to refoaming, I'm going to have them done professionally by someone else. I see these more as "history" then just another old driver. They're too old and too white for me to attempt to put my hands and glue on.

I think I'm going to like the warm sound and keep them around for a while anyways. I guess we'll see.
