Honestly the best used stuff I've gotten has been from shopgoodwill. As you say either in the "40" packs, smaller lots, or individual records. Rarely gotten skunked on an unplayable record. By comparison Ebay is a crap shoot. Local secondhand places (antique malls around here have some really amazing sellers...and some yahoos) haven't proven as consistent as shopgoodwill! We do have Mad City Music, which is an outstanding record store (selection, price, condition, atmostphere, customer service...hands down the best place in the area IMHO).

That said...I'm starting to stretch the bounds of what's availble selection wise of shopgoodwill. I built 80% of my Hafler/Pioneer S-710 system from shopgoodwill. So no hate! But I've reached that point where the 40 pack or records are stuff I'm not interested in or already have for maybe 1-3 records I actually do kind of want. Still, it's a great entry point to the hobby of record collecting!

back to the inverse riaa board after my nap.

so i did some reading on google and even had some ai assistance....

this is where i started

handy that it shows the end freq of the sweep and the level because that is what needs help.

target numbers:

* 20 Hz: -19.27 dB
* 50 Hz: -16.94 dB (The low turnover)
* 100 Hz: -13.09 dB
* 500 Hz: -4.75 dB
* 1,000 Hz (1 kHz): 0.00 dB (The center reference line)
* 2,122 Hz: +2.87 dB (The high turnover)
* 5,000 Hz (5 kHz): +8.21 dB
* 10,000 Hz (10 kHz): +13.73 dB
* 20,000 Hz (20 kHz): +19.62 dB

doing some reading and realized that i should set my hp8903b output impedance to 50ohm. so i did.

that got me up to 18.88dB

so i then started working on the hi end capacitor and ended up adding a cap in parallel


they are perfect with 210pf with 1.8nF.PNG

19.48dB is good enough for me. the hump at 100hz is gone. it was caused by a low input signal from the 8903b. i turned it up.)

there is a yellow trace under the blue one. they are tracking perfectly ;) :biggrin: :thumbsup: :smoke::smoke::smoke::smoke:

That's some serious effort. Not going to claim to understand all of it. I used a couple apps on my phone and picked up the Hafler microphone for room correction on the 160 EQ on my setup. Got it close, and then dialed it in by ear. Before anyone shouts me down; I am 46 and have spent my entire life running small engines and loud machinery (woodshop...avid chainsaw miller/mechanic/collector). I can still tune a saw's high carb jet by ear while it's buried in wood (it's feel as much as sound). But don't ask me if I can hear Sh*t over 14Khz .

I'm sure that JVC has got to sound great after you tuned it. That's a super pro job man.

Loved to hit up the Savers and any secondhand store I could find 10-15 years ago. Things are a lot different now. Too many resellers on eBay have ruined that part of it. And popularity has made everything more scarce. Still dig the resale shop next to the dump every time I go though..

thanks but that jvc is what i am listening to. it is bone stock. i am modding an inverse riaa network for testing phono stages.

i can't hear **** over 12.5khz myself. too many years in the paint booth. in the shop. in vehicles with stupid systems. etc.
