Carefully pour baking soda in water over the blue copper sulfate
I believe it turns it into salt and it washes away, also flakes off easily
will also show you where the acid leak is in the battery, probably around the terminal
never had a problem, but keep your face away from it when slowly pouring.

I used/use Spray Nine- highly alkaline... I figured it should neutralize acid well... seems to work for me... :)
