jvc on the bench. i'm not waiting for stuff to fail before i recap it and go thru this thing.

it's had a noisy tone bypass switch all along. the contacts really aren't that bad and it didn't measure bad.

what's super weird is that this thing was assembled with different contacts on each rail. left set has 1 leg. right set has 2 legs.

all 4 are switching the signal. i have seen switches have different contacts because one set was switching lamps but that is not the case here.

this switch has never been removed so there is zero chance that someone did this for a service. this switch was assembled like this.

i should have taken a pic with the contacts removed but i was more concerned with getting it cleaned and back together.

thinking that maybe a cap is leaking dc on the switch. i only noticed the right channel being noisy.

jvc did call for a low leakage 33uf on one side of the switch. 47uf gp caps were installed. it got 47uf low leakage replacements.

if i'd lay off the weed this thing would be back in the rack by now :smoke:

So if the switch doesn't clean it up do you have to scope the signal path to see were the noise starts ?
