What are your top 3 "MUST HAVE" turntable brands? And do you have all 3 now?

My top 3's are:

(1) Garrard Lab 80 (have it)

(2) Thorens TD 124 with SME 3009 II (once a dream, but now have it)

(3) Dual (don't have it yet) - not sure which model yet but I'm thinking either the 1229, 1229Q, 704, 721, or the CS5000

I have a:

ProJect Perspective

Technics SL-7

Technics SL1700

On my wish list:

VPI Scoutmaster

Beogram 4002 modified with Grado Gold

Yamaha PX-2.

I don't have any of these, but would love to.

Garrard 301

Thorens 124

Technics SP10 II or III

I currently have-

Technics SP25/ ATP-12T

Thorens TD150/ SME 3009

Thorens TD160/ Linn LVX

I would just post TTs accessible and not those state-of-the-art models that are out of reach for most people:

Clearaudio Champion (hopefully this year I would be able to get an Emotion)

VPI Classic

For me, that's it. I would also add with pleasure a Yamaha GT-2000 or a Sota .

For the moment I'm quite happy with my Thorens TD126 Mk II and trying to bring back to life a Revox B795

The three that I own are my must haves; Dual 701, AR-XB, and Technics SL-1600. You can buy more expensive turntables but I'm satisfied with my little group of vinyl spinners.

I've had

Pioneer PL-50
Linn LP12
Rega Planer 3
VPI 19jr III

In desending order. Market crash contributed to having to sell LP12 and ARC tube gear. Now I have a ROK B12GH and it is stellar. It's funny how idlers make almost everyone's list. Count me among the converts.:D

Big 3:

1) Clearaudio
2) Rega
3) Roksan

Others:

1) Sota
2) Linn
3) VPI

Dream:

1) Artemis Labs
2) Spiral Groove
3) Shindo

1. Dual. have my 1245 from the '70s. have my father-in-law's 1229 that needs to be refurbished.

2. B&O. have a 3300 linear and a 1602 (plus a spare for parts).

3. Thorens. no got :( maybe someday...

I bought the one I wanted as far as new TTs. Beyond that, I really liked a Dr. Feickert TT I heard a while back, but it was out of my price range. Still, I feel I'm getting what I want from a modern turntable with my VPI, so what I'm really wanting now is a TD-124, a pristine Empire 598 to complement my 208, and Rek o Kut Rondine Deluxe.

I would love a Systemdek IIx , almost bought one back in the day and never stopped kicking myself .

An LP12 , just because that was my dream then also

An finally a Technics/Sansui/Denon DD semi auto , never owned a DD table .

Pretty simple tastes I guess .

Top 3 favorites that I have:
Yamaha GT-2000
Pioneer PL-L1
TD-124 (+SME 3009)

"Honorable mentions" that I have and like:

Yamaha PF-800
Sansui SR-929
Pioneer PL-C590 (+SME 3009)
Sony PS-X65
Rebuilt/modded Lenco L75
Jobo Acoustical 3100 (came with SME 3009; now with SAEC)

Top ones I WANT to have but don't (yet :D ):

(Pioneer) Exclusive P3a
Yamaha GT-2000X
Thorens Prestige
Nakamichi Dragon or TX-1000

"Dream" tables I want but will probably never own:

Thorens Reference
Continuum Caliburn
Rockport Sirius III

I can't narrow it down to any one table in each category, as I haven't heard anything in particular yet, but here we go anyway. In decending order of desire.

1. Like somebody else said, a DD automatic. My AR had left me jonesing for auto-return.

2. An Empire turntable, not familiar with the specific models, but from what I've seen, they're all pretty gorgeous.

3. An old, heavy duty broadcast deck. I've seen pictures of rehabbed Sparta's and Russco's, they look fantastic.

I only want two TTs, not three.

A Michell Gyro SE MkII, which I have.

A Rega P5 for use as mono cartridge deck.

Simple.

I don't have any of these, but would love to.

Garrard 301

Thorens 124

Technics SP10 II or III

I currently have-

Technics SP25/ ATP-12T

Thorens TD150/ SME 3009

Thorens TD160/ Linn LVX

Both of those lists are pretty solid. :D:thmbsp:

I'd like to have an Empire 698 and 208, or at least a good arm for my 598. My other "must have" would probably be a three-speed ROK Rondine.

The portable Wildcat in mint condition. All other tables can be had with enough money. But try finding one of these...

Eventually I'd like to end up with three really good tables, one in each of the basic categories. Not saying there wouldn't be more than that around the house though.

Idler wheel: Garrard 301, 401 or Thorens TD-124. I'd kinda prefer the 401 if a salvageable one ever comes my way.

Direct Drive: Either a Technics SP-10 (one of the later versions) or a top line Denon. I'd like to design and build a really serious plinth for this project, just looking for the right deal on drive assembly to turn up.

Belt Drive: Something more modern. I'm not sure which direction I'd go with this at the moment and let's face it, this is the category that's changing from day to day now. There are some really wonderful TTs to be had in you have the $$$ to throw at the project.

Ok, pipe dreams over; realistically I'd like a wall shelf, new arm and some tweaks for my TD-125, a chance to play with some carts and try to get it as close to max as I can without spending money I don't have.

The precursor (& better) to the 1200....Technics SL1100, the perfect meld of understated styling and quiet excellence in performance. A not much baleyhued gem :music::D

Linear Trackers - In order of desire.
Technics SL-15 (to match my SL-10)
Pioneer PL-L1000/Phase Linear 8000
Bang & Olufsen Beogram 8002

Everything Else - In order of likelihood of ownership.
Pro-Ject RPM5.1 Superpack
Technics SL-1210 & RB300.
Perpetuum-Ebner PE2020

Esoterica - If I wake up rich one day.
Continuum Caliburn/Cobra
Nakamichi TX-1000
ELPJ and a suitably expensive RCM.
