Just poured a very frosty (almost left in the freezer too long) Ipswich Ale and I suddenly started thinking about albums I deperately wanted when I was a younger man. I got alot of them...but some still elude my grasp. Just a week ago a friend in the UK sent me my number one wanted disc: The Jonathan Richman Songbook! It was a British compilation lp that was on the market for one day in the early 80's. Anyway, here are some other discs I pine for...and these are freakin' rare!
Velvet Underground: MGM Interview LP
Captain Beefheart: Interview LP (Beefheart on one side, Ry Cooder on other)
Jonathan Richman: Goldstar Acetate (two discs of unreleased acoustic stuff)

Original first British pressings of "The Wall" and "Meddle" would it for me. First pressing of "Rubycon" by Tangerine Dream would be a close second.

Mint UK 1st pressings of the beatles in mono and stereo, along with mint copies of pink floyd, syd barret, and any other band i wanted.

Mine's a funny one. I've been looking for a copy of Yo Yo Ma's Bach cello concertos for ages now, and the only one I've found looked like a hockey puck.

Also, I'm on the hunt for a Minty copy of the Beach Boys' Smiley Smile. Nobody else seems to like that record much, but it's my fave of the Beach Boys, with Pet Sounds running a close second.

RCA LSC-2499, the Gounod/Bizet shaded dog.

I once turned down a rather noisy one that was on offer for $100, and a Korean dealer snapped it up for $125. I also once found a cover in a thrift store, but no record.

Of course, I could just buy one on eBay for $500, but that is more than I would care to pay.

This would have to be it:
MONTY PYTHON Soundtrack of The Holy Grail 1975 Arista (ab4050)

I might mention a few fav LP's here, but what I've noticed with virtually every last single LP in my collection, are those that are pre-1985 LPs usually sound very sweet, before the "Digital Demons" got thier nasty hands on replicating-remastering analog.

Folks like Steve Hoffman of course deserve much credit for trying thier hardest, and many of his masterings are very very good.

Some of the stuff I got from the late 50's. to mid 60's sound absolutely killer. Better than many of my later Mo-Fi's.

I got a killer, old Mammas, and Pappas, I forget the title, they're all sitting in the BathTub. And I paid a buck for it. really good sound, Mamma Cass sounds like she's right in the room with me.

Actually, my best Mo Fi, was the first I ever bought, probably 20 some years ago, The Doors, on JVC Virgin Vinyl. All the rest seem to pale slightly in comparison. Although there are a few newer ones that I'm happy with, like Traffic, The Low Spark of the High Heeled Boys.

Sounds as good as the day I bought it, and maybe that "LAST" preservative I did on it many years ago, has kept that baby impressing every time I put it on.

Some of the Mercurys, both old and newer are very nice as well. Mark

The Church "Priest=Aura"

Just got one on ebay last week finally, it's coming from Portugal. I've used the term holy grail in the past years to describe to friends how much I want this lp.

Never heard of that Church disc...and I love 'em! Yo Yo Ma? Oh yeah, I've been looking for the Yo Yo Ma/Stephane Grappeli tribute to Cole Porter. Syd Barrett? Pretty rare...but not too difficult to find. The cd reissues are too good to make me want vinyl. Monty Python? Geez, I think I have that one somewhere!

What is that Harold and Maude disc going for? I remember I ordered one on Amazon and a couple days later I got a "not in stock" email. Oh well...great movie, great music.

Smiley Smile and Surf's Up by the Beach Boys have been reissued on 180G vinyl. I had Smiley Smile back in the day. Don't know where it is now. But I love "Our Prayer".

I'm looking for a clean playable copy of the stereo version of Sinatra's "Only the Lonely". That's my black grail.

a mint copy of Grand Wazoo by Frank Zappa.

Automatic Man

Trace and also Trace "Birds"

Everything by Focus except Hamburger Concerto which I currently have.

Supersister "A Present from Nancy" and "Pudding en Gesturn"

Ekseption (anything would be fine)

Herb Alpert...kidding I kid. :D

Billy Cobham Spectrum and Live in Europe with George Duke.

How about something more modest? Right now my holy grail is just the Grouper album Dragging a Dead Dear Up a Hill because it came out like two years ago and I refuse to pay $50 for the second pressing! Yes of course I have more serious holy grails but c'mon, someone sell me that )#(@$*@)#$( grouper record. Oh, also in the same non-absurd price range is Armand Schaubroeck's Ratf##ker. I really really want that but again, not quite ready to pay $50.

Hhmm.:scratch2: He wants a mint copy of Grand Wazoo. But he kids about Herb Alpert. hhmm Again.:scratch2: How dare you. :D

I on the otherhand, have a mint~Nm copy of Grand Wazoo but am looking for a Mint copy of Herb Alpert "North on South Street" on vinyl (1991).

People PooPoo Herbie and his first 12 which are fireplace fodder but I have every Herb Alpert except the afore mentioned in Perfect condition (stereo). Oooh, touch me.
I think there are 29 (on vinyl) not counting best ofs, compilations and import variants. I have only seen North on South Street on vinyl once. Its so rare Im not even sure Herb knew he was being recorded...... Now Im Kidding.

One of these days, not too far in the future, Im going to liquidate all my vinyl and I'll keep you in mind flammaster.
