What bands don't you "get"?

...the same can be said for just about any other year, pre- or post-Beatles.

Everyone (and I mean everyone) knows that all music sucked before the Beatles. I can't believe I wasted my birthday cash on a new idler wheel for my 78 turntable.

Signs of intelligent life in this thread after all. (Good list, Chicks)

So Scuzzer, how's that birthday coming along?

Headed back out for the fourth soccer game of the day, this one under the lights! Birthday dinner ended up being a handful of Hershey kisses. Maybe we'll do something better later this week.

Maybe we need to start a thread about which bands people do get. I think it would be interesting to compare the bands a person really likes with bands they don't get. There may be a story there...

FWIW, I'm with you on many of those but one of my favorite albums of all time is my "Original Master recording" of Crime of the Century. I have also been blown away by Diana Krall's stuff. I was exposed to it when a "big band" I played in chose one of her versions of a song.

Then again, my all time favorite band is 60's and 70's Genesis. Most people don't get that.

I do find it very interesting how music really does vary from person to person......It truly is subjective...and although I do not "get" some bands, I still have respect for the talent they have and respect for the people who like it....the world would be pretty boring if they only had vanilla ice cream

He was a great success in the sense that his level of public recognition far outstripped his (nonexistent) talent. :lmao:
Like Nickelback!

Just saw this floating around the 'net. Thought I'd offer it. Pretty funny stuff.

I read this whole thread. It's a weird one.

Not sure if I can get into the spirit. There are lots of bands I don't like. Most of them, however, I "get," i.e. I can see why people like them.

That's the whole problem. I don't like them because I see exactly why people like them, and I think they their reasons for liking them are bad, weak, or wrong.

I don't get Pink Floyd at all.

I'd buy the "you just had to be there, man" argument.

I just simply can't relate to a time when they paving new ground (if ever).

Bands/Artists I don't get
Kenny G - Demonstrates how boring and bland Jazz can actually be.
Micheal Bolton - Sounds like he's singing in a Folgers coffee commercial.
The Dead - I hear talent but I don't honestly care.
Phish - I hear a bland Dead cover band and I honestly don't care.
Pantera - Early stuff wasn't bad but boy did they ruin that quick.
Nickleback - I plain just don't like them also every song sounds the same.
Beatles - Have some legitimately good tunes but kinda seem more hype than substance to me.
Kiss - See above
Metallica - Kinda ok....ish way back in the Mustaine days but just seemed to be more and more about the money as time went on.
Huey Lewis - a cut rate Eddie Money, there I said it.
Loverboy - All Canadian bands can't be like Rush.
Any kind of Death Meta - Cookie monster is fine on sesame street talking about cookies.

there are others but I honestly don't care to mention them.
