What brand signal cables are you using for your McIntosh gear?

What brand cables are in my systems? Audioquest, Kimber, and Blue Jean cables.

BJC all the way. Just go these a couple of weeks ago. Two sets of rca interconnects, two digi coax and one for the sub. Interconnect wire is made in USA.

Great stuff at very reasonable prices.

I have Belden tools from my antennae project and was going to buy some more cable and the RCA connectors they sell and make my own.

I found these cables and lost all of my ambition. 15GA, O free, gold plate and dirt cheap. I rewired my entire rack for less than $100. Cables for Less

For the LaScalas I have some 12 GA O free speaker wire, probably paid too much but I wanted to get them up and running ....haste makes waste.

A lot of the guys on the Klipsch site are using KORD cables, given the low damping rates of the 2205 I may buy some of the 10 GA.

All -Made in the USA- Nordost Frey 2 cables. HUGE upgrade over my previous Monster M1 interconnects and speaker cables. The soundstage opened up dramatically when I switched to the Nordost cables. I was (and still am) shocked at how audible the improvements were. These are low capacitance, low inductance cables with a very wide bandwidth.

If you have a TAPE monitor loop, you can try this little experiment:

Run an RCA IC from the TAPE OUT to the TAPE IN.

Then compare the original signal with the signal that has been passed through the RCA IC by switching the TAPE monitor switch off/on.

Start with cheapest cable you have and listen for any sound degradation when you switch in the TAPE loop.

Chances are you will not need go any further. OOPS! Did I just say that? :D

The thread asks the question "What brand of signal cables do you use for your McIntosh gear". Not whether you believe in esoteric cables or not. Just so you folks know............this cable thread is very unusual in that it's run this long without turning into a shitstorm. Don't be that guy that screws it up. :)

I started with Monster and stayed with Monster. I just pulled them and cleaned them up last week. I usually do that once a year.

I also use Monster HDMI and AV cables for my TV. What can I say, I'm a fan.

Here is something interesting. recently I hooked up a rather decent setup for a friend who didnt have one, one of the normal set of patch cords we hooked up, we thought the tweeter in the left speaker was out, NO HIGHS at all. Man when did that happen???? we unplugged the set of patch cords running from the pre amp to the amp, substituted "audiophile cables and immediately the highs returned to the left channel ( we did not change the speaker wire) so I think those really cheap wires can "fail" and the better built "audiophile cable may sound the same to you or close, the really cheap stuff can "malfunction" but not "short out". I took those set of cables home ran them on my second system.....again no highs from one channel.....never had that happen with ANY cable before.

I don't mean to derail this thread but what kind of rack is that? I like those cables too.

I use only BJC for all my digital connections. Great prices and good quality.

Had had some Mogami and Canare. I ended up pulling all the Canare out because I'm lazy!

The Mogami has the ground/drain/sheath (not sure what it's called) and it is wrapped around the inner wires. Need "X" inches in length? Cut the outer covering, unwrap the drain and you're done.

The Canare instead, has the drain/ground WOVEN around the center stuff and I found myself cursing a bit at the process of un-weaving it.....so dumped it and replaced it with more Mogami.

Well, you can't be THAT lazy if you're terminating your own cables, right?
 
I use WireWorld and Audioplan cables in my McIntosh System!
I also use the Audioplan FineFilter and PowerPlant for better electricity!

Probably get spanked for this, but I bought 13 pair of Interlink 400 back in the late 80's and they're holding up well physically.

Could never understand, and no salesman could explain the directional ARROWS, but have come to learn the shield is grounded at the SOURCE end? :scratch2:

It terms of TODAY dollars, they'd cost.... twice as much!
