What CD Player (NON Mc) to Use With Mc Gear

I am sure this question has been asked myriad times.

I wrongly brought this up in the MCD7000 Restoration thread, and was wondering what CDP (NON McIntosh) player you use and why. I am just trying to get some real solid info out there as I no longer use vinyl because of my kids and use a CDP all the time. I have bought and used the MVP Mc players (up to the MVP861) and thought they were OK, better than the '80s players but nothing special.

I have listened, bought, traded, and sent on probably 30 players.

Right now I use :

1) Rega Planet (Original Version)
2) Rega Jupiter 2000
3) MCD7000 (Busted, non-working plant stand)

These laid-back players (the Jupiter more so) fit the Mc style and sound from the tube pre and SS Mc amp and I don't plan to get rid of them. Wanting to put it out there to see if anyone has another magic combo.

It's ok that you brought that up AFAIC. In the past three years we have bought two new DVD players. The first was a Sony with 1080p capability, and more recently a Sony Blu-Ray player. The video rack is at the opposite end of the room under the screen, and two 12' cheapy RCA cable pairs in series (24' total) route audio up to the Mc Preamp.

The point is, that we put the retired 1080p Sony DVD in the Mc rack just under the preamp and cabled it in. There was a difference in sound, but I couldn't describe how it was different at this point in time. So in summary, we compared a late model $160 Sony disc player to the MCD700x and noticed a distinct difference, but the MCD is still in service and the Sony is down in the store room in its carton. What do you play Digital Video Discs on?

Compared the MVP861 to my Sony SCD-777ES and they were essentially equal, so kept the matching McIntosh. The Oppo 95 gets great reviews.
 
Why turn away from Mac? I've found the MCD205 to be a very, very, nice sounding player on its own. If you can swing the MDA1000, I assure you, the two together will have you wondering why there is ever any criticism given of CD.
 
I've been tempted by the Oppo BDP-95 but I haven't pulled the trigger yet. The Oppo is supposedly a very nice sounding audio player .. and a great video player to boot. It's also significantly more affordable than a comparable McIntosh and appears to be well supported with firmware updates as needed. I love McIntosh gear, but the BDP-95 looks like a tough act to follow. If it had Amazon Prime streaming support I'd have one now.

I am happy with my Luxman D-351. Back in in the day when I could actually audition McIntosh in my home, I was not that impressed with their CD players the cost to enjoyment ratio was too high.

Lately I have been looking at tube CD players, mostly Chinese. I would have to hear one first before buying it though. They do get good reviews.

Since I concentrate on vinyl and tape CD's are not a big thing for me. I do have a pretty good collection of CD's though.
 
Sony ES 400 disc changer connected to C32, and MCD7008 connected to the digi input on my HT receiver.

+1....OPPO is the way to go.

I had the 205 a few years back along with a C42/MC252. A great performer which had great synergy with the other components.

The Shanlings do sound superb - I had a CD-T100 for a while. But there is no USA factory authorized service so owning one is a bit of a risk. I sold it and bought the highly-regarded Sony XA5400ES instead. It's an excellent player with SACD capability too. Highly recommended (even though I really wanted the Mac 500...just too much $).

I have an Oppo BDP-95 in my home theater system. I tried the Oppo BDP-95 in my two channel audio system with a C48 preamp and MC501 amps, but preferred my Classe CDP-10 player for music. The Oppo is back in my home theater system while the Classe CD player remains in my McIntosh system.
 
See if you can find a good deal on a MVP871, or get an Oppo, or actually I recently heard a Cambridge player that was real nice.
 
I am using an Oppo BDP-95 downstairs and an Oppo BDP-83 upstairs. I really like the sound but truthfully have not compared them to McIntosh CD players.
 
Thanks everyone for their responses. I am not looking for anything and not planning on buying anything.

The main idea of the thread is what people are using right now in their systems. I am just trying to figure out if there is some magic setup for CD players in Mc systems. Was wondering what people are using right now other than Mc players.

I am very happy with the Rega and the Mc amps that I use (Mc2300,Mc2255,Mc2505,Mc30,etc), and wanted to get some more info out there as whether or not there are some great CDPs to use with Mc.

Like I said, I have owned Mc players and a MVP and it was OK, but not as good as the Regas are.
 
I have a Jolida JD100 with a pair of Gold Lion 12AX7s in it for my CD player. For SACD and BluRay, I have an Oppo BDP83SE. I am quite satisifed with the performance of both.
