What do I need for Karaoke?

Hi,

I have a Bose 901 system, where I have hooked up the the pre-amp to the Line-In on my AS-700 Yamaha amp. I know this is not ideal - would rather have an amp with pre-amp capabilities.

Picture of the front and back below.

What I need is to hook up a microphone to work in conjunction with what's being played through the line-in on the back - for now my thought is buying a standalone karaoke system, hooking the line-in with that, and the mics through there as well.

Appreciate any inputs.

You would either need a Karaoke machine with the ability to run a separate amplifier or simply a mixer board.
 
I had an older Kenwood receiver with a switch and variable input dial from the microphone input. I thought it was pretty cool because you could use it as a P.A. with background music with adjustable volumes for both using front panel controls. Modern karaoke with words displayed needs a special setup of course. Simple old school setup might be two amps and two sets of speakers.

With Karaoke, you would need a screen and song list but the music can be reproduced with just about anything.........powered mixer, mixer/preamp with external power amplifier, and of course a full on Karaoke machine. You will have to look but I have seen lots of Karaoke machines with the ability to patch into external amplifiers and speakers. Sorry that I cannot recommend any one machine as there are so many out there.
 
A large group of young Hong Kong Chinese people, a good supply of snacks, some cheap whiskey and green tea to mix the cheap whisky with, and no judgment of others talent or lack of it. And a room at a karaoke bar. Anyways, that has been my experience.
