What do you do for a living?

I've been in the automotive parts business for the last 15 years. I'm the (ASE Certified :) ) Internet Parts Manager for the Ray Laks Dealerships in Western New York State, and manage our internet site www.hondacuraworld.com , the largest distributor of Acura and Honda parts and accessories in North America, an entity which I created myself almost 4 years ago :)

All of the wonderful web design work on my site can be attributed to none other than our own Wardsweb :beerchug:

Cool site Kam, i never knew there were soo many accesories for our pilot... That arent rice. lol

I hang vinyl siding and windows and fibercement siding, and whatever else a customer needs in the light construction biz. Been doing it for about 10 years......... it's a living.

What I do for a living.

I am a tv technician for CC, working out of their stores.(not in the homes hardy at all, thank God!). I am also in college, getting my MCSE degree, and I am also trying to become a writer(I have written one fiction novel, which I had copyrighted in January. )If I can get a publisher, then maybe i will not need to work for CC anymore(at least the job fits around my school and radio club schedule).

In my spare time, i love flea markets, swap mets, auctions, and the like. I am also involved with two antique radio clubs.

I am a Computer Tech, currently unemployed I might add.

Hey Mrs. K this is for you........ overheard at an Urology clinic...
"can you hold" ? :D

International Man of Mystery....White Slave Trader...All-Around Good Guy & Devil-May-Care Flying Fool...naw, really I'm a purchasing agent at a label printer. -Sandy G.

:uzi: I have a Masters degree in Biomechanics (analysis of motion), but couldnt get myself started in it...Business wise I suck! but I am the best coach.

Let's see; 33years with Bell Canada - everything from toll & local switching center tech, the to programming big iron (Univac and IBM) then on to Section Manager long range planning, then an early out.

Here in the USA have been Senior Consultant, Principal Member of the Technical Staff, Road Warrior training in LAN and WAN 6 weeks out of 8 on the road. Self employed consultant, to Senior Instructor here and now Tech Writer, so about 53 years in the work force.

Restoring vintage gear is just a hobby.

Lower than dirt.....

.... a salesman :( .

I work for a large commercial/industrial insulation "master distributor" - one of the biggest.

I consider myself blessed. The pay is OK & they treat you like an adult, I'm writing this while on hold, without fear.

And after quite a few years in the industry, I know many of my customers well. It does make it much more pleasant than many of my previous high-pressure :deal: hit & run type jobs. I'm blunt, but I know my stuff, they know I'll deliver as promised  (what a concept ;) )!!

Not bad for a former HS drop-out longhair hippie freak :D :D :D !

Now if I could only get to that level of audio knowledge  - ahhhh, that would be sweet!

I am a General Manager of a automotive interior manufacturing plant.

I work at the hospital at nights doing circumcisions

It does not pay much, but I get to keep the tips:eek:

Hey Pete...

Don't worry about feeling lower than dirt. My Dad's a salesman as well. He goes all over TX, LA, OK, & AK selling SEPTIC SYSTEMS! Being "lower than dirt" is nothing! He's "lower than ****"! And most days, he just catches crap! :D

#1 in the #2 business eh ;)

I think we've done this a couple times before, right? Anyway, always fun do it again. My entire career has been in the automatic test industry. We make equipment to test the semiconductors chip makers sell to others. My most interesting period was making equipment for DAC and ADC testing. Alas, I've been working on flash memory testers for the past few years, not nearly as interesting.

Yes, I think so. But with the way AK has grown in membership, it seemed an update was in order. It's always interesting to know what everyone does.

Hmmm....I didn't see the original thread--a pointer might make it easier.

I've spent slightly more (now) than half of my life in the software industry, formerly as an operating system developer for the large timeshare systems of Digital Equipment Corp (systems long since gone, and DEC was absorbed into Compaq who got assimilated by HP). For those that might have been around, it was before the VAXen; it was the DECSystem-10.

The other part of my life was in academia as my PhD is in organometallic chemistry. Would like to shift back into some teaching role with that, but at the moment that would be a time-consuming shift that I just don't have time for in at least the next few years. I decided after graduate school that I didn't have the sales skills to be successful as a research prof in academia, which is what my academic pedigree looks like it's groomed for.

Currently I do system administration work on mostly Un*x systems for Caltech, which was my undergrad alma mater.-kby

I have proudly spent the last 21 years as a U.S. Army civilian employee at an Army installation in southeastern Oklahoma. Started out in mechanical engineering and then moved into information technology. For the past 4 years I have served as the Information Technology Director, managing a staff of 33 talented individuals charged with supporting all of the automation and telecommunications systems and services for the installation.
