LD player , Kenwood LVD-Z1, it weighs about 20kg ,oh, and it sounds divine. Listening to Lana del Rey, and it sounds like she is in the room.

Had a Carver laser disc player purchased new in 91 for $1000, it left a lot to be desired playing music in direct comparison with my vinyl. Followed by a plethora of midline players in the $100 - $400 price range just confirmed I didn't like digital.

About 4yrs ago I see a Sony deck I looked at in an Audio Advisor catalog yrs before that once retailed for $1000, now used for $80. Figured I would give it one more try, if nothing else I could still use it to watch DVD's.

Well I finally found a deck that didn't squash all the life out of the music, I now have two of them.

This find led me to purchase a couple more upper tier Sony decks.

i do have a sony in my bed room set , must try it in the living room set ,its not as top end as your gear but its still a cool unit, cdp-997

In the early 2000's based on rave reviews comparing the deck to the Rega Planet I purchased a Sony DVP NS500V, $379 from Audio Advisor if memory serves. I was underwhelmed to say the least, especially as most of my friends were plunking down $30 for players, I figured my investment should have had a better return.

It was then I saw the more expensive Sonys but wasn't ready to plunk down another $1000 after the Carver unit left so much on the table.

No experience with the model you have, but not all Sony decks are the same, so don't judge the better decks based on what you hear from that deck, I made that mistake with the 500V, lesson learned.

no i dont play laser discs as i dont have a tv ,but must try it one day, do you have a laser disc player your self, i dont have the cd player but always looking

so do tell what you are currently using,i do have a bed room cd player that ended up living with me,its a sony ,
but i cant blame it for that as that is how it was born lol its model number i be-leave is cdp-997,
its my fault but i do get lost in it some times with the right cd lol,
i run it with a yamaha receiver rx-v870 thats a nice unit but still only 80 watt ,
the speakers are surprising to say the least.
dont tell any one but i have been listering to a pair of cerwin vega vs-80 .
they sound very good , i never thought i would enjoy a set like that but they are just good fun to listen to,

Well I don't listen to CD's or DVD's much as I am more of a vinyl guy but what I use will probably make you laugh.
I too use a Sony. A CDP-C725 that I bought new that I like. I used to make a lot of mixed tapes on my Dragon and the peak scan feature comes in handy for that plus I like the sound she produces.
I also use, and don't laugh, an original Sony Playstation SCPH 1001 as well and like the sound that comes out of it.
Now if I was one of them "Audiophile" type folks I would never admit that I use the playstation but I'm not so I will.
Maybe someday I will upgrade to a modded 5501 if I can find one in good condition.
 
nz: A bit on the huge side, if you'd ask me. My most used CD player is Panasonic SL-CT570A, which isn't quite as huge - and a tad lighter, too. :)
