What do you look for when you buy your first earphone cable?

Hey guys! I’m buying my first replacement cable on Amazon and I’m not really sure how to pick and choose.
There’s a LOT of specifications (materials, connectors, core counts and what not). They are really hard to understand and I don’t really know which really matter.
I’d just like something that’s compatible with different devices, durable and practical.
What things would you look for? Do I need to carefully check specifications? Also, what’s the price range I should expect?
Really appreciate the support!

For which headphones? Why not an original spare part? Is there a microphone integrated? Is there a volume control integrated? Is the cable soldered in or does it plug in (each can a plug or a common one for both)?...and so on with the questions.

To connect to different devices a cable with 3,5mm plug and a 6,3mm adaptor comes in handy, though you can get the adaptor separate.

Appreciate your advice! A friend just gave me a Xiaomi Quad Driver IEM set (3.5mm) plus a 4.4mm balanced Xelento. How would one know which cable suits which (aside from the jack size)? Or can it be just 1 cable model w. different jack sizes?
