What do you make of these?

I'm looking at pictures of my old KHorns and it looks to me like it's 1/2" plywood as well. Can't say for sure though.
I have seen older Altecs (Valencias for example) that are in pretty thin, pretty much un-braced cabinets. So maybe that was they way speakers were made then?? I dunno.
I'd do some research if I were interested in the ones for sale though.

i dont think the valencias are very thin, the last pair i saw were really well built and they were original, no bracing though.

The Klipschorn used different thicknesses for different pieces (of which there are a lot). Whether or not they could/should be stronger, a complex corner horn is really not comparable to a basic rectangular bass enclosure.
