I just brought a sony ta 2000 preamp(not the same as the sony ta 2000F).It has a test button below the vu meters but doesn't seem to do anything.Does anyone with one of these older models know what this button is suppost to do? Is mine broken?.Also in the tapehead position it unit will break out into a squeal. I can stop it by shorting the inputs to the tapehead. Is this normal and should the tape head have shorting plugs if not used.

This unit came with 6 shorting plugs so those would be used for the 3 low level inputs, Tape Head, Phono-1 and Phono-2 (whether low or regular input level).

I don't know why it would squeal without the plug, though.

The test button is for just that, Test(ing). As explained in the manual.

Send me your email by pm and I'll send you pictures of the manual.
