What "family of sound" does a Scott 370R belong to?

I've been at this for a little over a year now and beginning to get comfortable with each brands signature sound and how it changes through the lineups. I've read a lot about Scott but have yet to actually spend time listening to one. A local shop has a Scott 370R for sale and I've proposed a trade for it. As close as I can tell...most people compare it to a "Technics sound"? Does anyone have a good comparison? A very beautiful receiver and thinking of exchanging it (or a Yamaha CR-620) with a Pioneer SX-850 I've given to my daughter....the Pioneer seems to need some fixing.

How does this sound present itself?

It will kill all three of those, if it's the same model I am thinking of (need a pic).

Those scotts have a nice upfront ballzy sound, and still sound very clear.

I had the 350R and I liked it a lot. Not as warm as my Marantz and not as sterile as Yamaha. I think I would have to say that it was somewhere in the middle. Somewhat similar to my Sansui 661. 350R was only about 40W/channel but it moved my Thiel speakers without any problems. It is one of the receivers I regret selling which I can't say about the Pioneers and Yamahas (at least the models that I had).

I wish the scott 370R was in MY family of sound again. I had one and I still regret selling it. Like the previous poster had said... to me it was somewhere between sounding like a marantz and yamaha....if you are looking for a "family of sound".... sometimes it takes alot of time trying to define that...depending on speakers and other equipment matching.....but there is some general agreement on the "kind of sound" that certain brands exhibit.

I have a 355R that I use in my garage, but I have considered moving it to one of my house systems. the tuner section is great and it's not shy on power. I have a Yamaha CR 600 in my bedroom and while the tuner is outstanding, it does sound sterile...boring...clean, but not full. The bass is pretty week on the Yamaha, but the 355R makes no apologies. It has 3 tone controls and 2 aux inputs. Most of the rest of my gear is Sansui and the 355R does well with my tastes.

Should be hearing back from the shop on the possible trade soon. The description of where you guys say the sound characteristics are at would be right about where my preferences lay. I'm beginning to get away from appreciating a lot of color these days and finding one of my old favorites may need to be traded because of it.....but holding on too the WC-22 case for an upper level Marantz where the clarity pops through that lighter/creamy color...no mistaking the sonic beauty of that concept!

Speaker pairing....now there is the biggest bug a boo of it all isn't it? I have a small Sansui 4000 and when paired right, it doesn't have to make too many apologies to anything. (Not so friggin" "lowly" in my book.)

Hoping this "test trade" works out well for us both and if not, the Scott has a very fair asking price. (But hoping it will cost me nothing and leave him making some good cash to help his brick and mortar.)

My ONLY complaint is they use a volume control with notches-clicks, I really hate that on any controls.

Ended up going back and doing a very fair trade. (Walked away with the Scott 370R and Pioneer PL-12D II Turntable w/new stylus.) The Scott is in need of a little love (in the repair of the vinyl skin) but both units are fully serviced and working beautifully.

Appreciate all you guys advice and really enjoying the new setup.....LETTING MY DAUGHTER KEEP THE PIONEER SX-850! (I have a minty one anyways and want to do a direct head to head with the Scott...might be a similar sound and think the bass on the Scott might be more tight?)

Pioneer's sound too blendy, blurry too me, especially the tuner, not upfront clean bass and good separation, amp controls the speakers better, even at low volume.
The Scott also has pretty clear and crisp highs as well.

I dunno, please post back.
