What Fisher Case Did I get accidentally?

Hi Everyone,

I hope folks can help me out with this. Recently I purchased a Scott 355 preamp/tuner and it came in a case that wasn't it's own.

I posted a picture of this in the Scott facebook group and received a message from another user that his 355 had come in the exact same case, which he believed to be a fisher case, but it was long ago and he didn't remember which, same response from the seller of the 355

Anyway, I was able to find a donor 340b to clothe my 355 and now i have a spare case, which I thought I'd offer to folks here, but it seems like it would be a good idea to know what it actually fits before offering

At 18" wide, it is no doubt for a receiver, as opposed to an integrated amplifier. But at only 11.5" deep, that would be tough to accommodate even Fisher's integrated amplifiers, which are typically about an extra inch deeper. The mystery continues.......

shoot! thanks for the reply - yeah the lack of depth is atually kind of handy with the 355, easier access to the RCA's, the person on facebook who had the same cabinet kept 355 in it for that reason

Does that have the Scott screen on top? It sure looks like a Scott cabinet. If 1/2" wider than your 355 it may have been for the 4310 tuner. I always thought the 4310 had a standard large format "G" chassis, but a person who owns one mentioned that it was slightly wider. I can't confirm this as I didn't measure it. I was too busy looking at the controls. If so, it's still a mystery as the standard wide format "G" cabinet is approx 16" deep. The 4310 cabinet I saw looked 16" deep and was not 11 1/2". Maybe this cabinet was cut down at some time

I'm not an expert on Scott vs Fisher screens, but can say that the screen on the 340b case was slightly different, the screen on the "mystery case" was similar to that on my LK-72 and my LT-110. I could understand cutting it down to use with the 355 - it does it make easier to reach the RCA's, but if it was, whoever did it, did a really really nice job, the edges look pretty similar to the factory cases I have

It's difficult to tell what it fits. Maybe someone here knows the mystery.

I have several Scott "G" cabinets (355,296, etc size) and the screens all look like this....



I have many Fisher cabinets and all have this screen.....



The cutout style was very different on the Fisher and Scott cabinets.

Well, the cutout is definitely more scott. I didn't realize I had stumbled into such a mystery, but it does make me feel better about not being able to figure it out on my own reading threads and Google searching

I think I might have figured it out, doing a little more digging I came across this ebay listing for one of their early solid state receivers a Stereomaster 636

I wasn't able to find specific dimensions for this exact unit, but did find one for what is probably a similar and similar sized unit, the 636S

I think the measurements seem to match up

btw, that 636s has IMO a great, very attractive early pioneer blackface look - anyone ever heard one of those?

Possibly a 299 Scott case, doesn't resemble any Fisher case I own, and I have many.
