What good is Stacking?

Done right?

Looks like a mess of drivers coupling, phase anomlies due to non-equidistant and/or reflected time arrival of sound, and without enough space between the array's to have correct, defined-coherent spatial information delivery, the opposite of the "point source theory" to me. But if that is what you like, then cool, great, well done, I'm happy for you, really. It's all about what you want. The facts, whether technical or from personal experience are there to follow. Git-R-Done!

She is too cute-agreed- a lil' sweetie pie! You know, this thread is a discovery project. I look at it this way: If you have stacked speakers, read the information given freely, try them "un-paired-un-stacked" and if your taste for that sound is right, then WOW!, you've hit the motherload. If you do that and it's not for you and you continue to use them stacked or in any multiple configuration, WOW, you've already had the motherload.
 
Those circles are, indeed, speakers. It's a home theater system in much too small of a room employing 160 midranges, 160 tweeters, 4 15" subwoofers, 7 Behringer A500 170w per channel amplifiers and 1 Samson S1000 for the subwoofers. All active crossovers for all 7 channels. It's certainly not an ideal room, but it performs admirably for movies. For great music reproduction, i'd want the room two be about 2x as wide as it is. (This isn't mine, BTW, its a friend that I led astray).

Line Arrays and line sources don't have nearly the phase problems you might think, Steve. Especially, in this configuration, the horizontal and vertical off axis response is well controlled because of the driver arrangement. They are as dynamic as any horn speakers I ahve heard, especially as you back further away. One of the advantages of a line array is as you double your distance from the array, it drops by 3 dB rather than the 6 dB drop you get with a point source. At 4 meters away, it's got 6db more output than a point source
speaker with the same sensitivity rating.

And thank you for the compliments about my daughter. I think she is perfect, no baby stacking needed. :)
 
Oh, I should mention that most line arrays do have similar comb filtering problems as stacked speakers, but with small enough mounting flanges, like the speakers in the pic (1.5" center to center spacing), comb filtering doesn't become a problem until well after audible ranges.

Well then, I guess that is stacked to the max. No doubt that it sounds good, it had better, if you know what I mean. There is a wild card here, and maybe I'm beating a dead horse, but.., no amount of technical laws can govern what an individual human will take a liking too, unless it is not ever having to feel the pain of a loved one's passing or not having to pay taxes. I would love to hear that system! I'm a live and let live kinda guy. I've been bullied by "technophiles" to the point of lacking the desire to argue into the extreme depth of negativity... not worth it. Enjoy what you have , while you have it. Live to enjoy it, whatever it may be.

It looks like you are blocking some of the vents on your receivers. Aren't you concerned about overheating?
