what grease to use on the Technics SL-1950 auto return system?

after my first post, I ended up getting an Audio Technica AT-VM95C cartridge I was testing it and when it reached the end of the record instead of lifting and returning it just returns scratching across the whole record. I was wondering if Liuthum grease would work on it. I also have not opened it yet and the autolift plastic switch could also be cracked or broken.

what I've done is use the grease that's already there. usually, there's a glob of grease on the mechanism but worn away from where it should be.

Wouldn't the old grease be all dried up by now?

got to open it up and look. I've found that it's still there, but has moved with time. that's what I do. but, if you want to replace it, go with what's suggested in the AK thread. i haven't had success with lithium spray, as it needs to be a grease. might look at vinylengine and see what's suggested. https://www.vinylengine.com/turntable_forum/viewtopic.php?t=119478
Ok, I will open it when I have a chance. The lithium grease I have is thicker and was meant for lubrication.

I suggest you search tonearm damping fluid on AK. A high viscosity silicone fluid can be used to replace the original fluid so the tonearm lowers properly.

Lowering is not an issue. It’s the auto rise on return as the cueing arm does work it’s just the auto lift is not working correctly. Ether the grease has dried up on the lift mech or the plastic lift mech switch has cracked as that can happen if it’s set to auto start but the tone arm is still locked in place

I just replaced the grease on the lift mech so I goes up now but still does not go high enough to clear the record. What can I do now?

From what I can tell it’s just not lifting it high enough but when I change the Hight it’s to high for it onto touch the record

Try the screw on the lift mechanism, towards the back of the arm- screw in. Get the service or owner's manual from vinyl engine or the net; as there are other adjustments.

I tried adjusting it. One tick up and it’s to high and one tick down is too low. I can’t access the manual on vinyl engine as I need an account for that but they locked the sign up system.
