What hit my home brew two metre Yagi antenna?!

G'day mate, yes a friend of mine suggested that it might have been a bat although I've not seen any recently, yet sometimes they are in plague proportions locally and make a real mess.

Still a bit of a mystery. Regards, Felix aka catman.

Addition: That type of antenna is called a 'yagi' after its Japanese designer. It is also called a 'yagi-Uda' antenna as well as a fellow called Uda also assisted in its design. Yagi antennas have been designed for many frequencies and they work very well providing 'gain' and a directional radiation pattern.

Hello Felix,

That is definitely a puzzler.

Glad you were able to repair it. By the way did you use antenna modeling software for its design?

G'day mate. Modelling software? What modelling software?! Interesting story actually.

I had previously designed a slightly larger five element 2 m yagi and this one a little later for a friend who needed a simple high performance small yagi.

I designed both yagi's by actual gain and pattern measurement out in the front yard using my old Icom IC-2A hand held transceiver, my Oskerblock 2 M SWR meter and a DIY field strength meter positioned a couple of wavelengths away. The real old fashioned way. Hi. Regards, Felix (vk4fuq) aka catman.
