What I learned on Craigslist

Not audio related, but something I see more and more, and find pretty funny, is when people selling cars try to cover up the license plate. I find the finger technique especially silly.
I don't understand why they would think their plate number is some kind of secret information. I mean, we all drive around in public with our plates fully exposed every day.

Only one time in the hundreds of CL purchases or drive by's did I ever get scared. A guy said he had a Fisher 500C so I went over to look at it. It was not a 500c but some other solid state Fisher. Talking to him he revealed he had
just got out of prison for some offense and was selling tons of junk...mostly lawnmowers, but just tons of junk. I got the feeling this was time to leave and he casually mentioned "I could just kill you and burn you
body in that fire pit".

Yup..scary people out there.

Craigslist has search capabilities. Car thieves as well as car shoppers can use them to find the sort of car they want. Not the same exposure when you drive around. Out in public the thief just sees what happens to be near him.

How would that help a thief? There's no relevant information that can be gained from a plate number. This guy at Autotrader says basically it just makes you look lazy, or that you have something to hide.

I agree, really doesn't do anything to block the LP# but just like when people talk into their phones holding them horizontally, ... they think it's necessary.

I once went to a house in National City to look at an amp and pre that had a pair of scary, obviously high on meth guys doing the selling.
Perfect shape in this case was spray painted covers and one channel out on the amp. No thanks.
Obviously they were expecting me to buy and started glancing back and forth at each other when it was obvious I wasn't going for it.
I managed to talk my way out by complimenting the woodworking skills of the less crazy looking fella (he had made a few pieces there that were really, really nice) and saying I might have some projects for him. He got excited and jabbered on and on about fancy wood and his building techniques. He really was talented and it sucks that he ended up in a bad way with drugs.
During all of the talking I was slowly backing my way out of the house and made it safely to my truck.

That was pretty much my only "I could have been robbed or killed" CL transaction to date.

Although it is on Discogs and not CL I saw this for a $40 Jazz LP:
Sleeve: Near Mint (NM or M-)

With this description:
1 clear taped seam, sm cover delamination at 1 corner

Such a fool here, I had no idea my taped seam, delaminating covers were NM!
