NAS is awesome for a backup. i don't have to worry about my images on imgdepot. They seem to be secure and I can download and erase if I ever decided to. The thing is, I have the option to keep my images private and its all encrypted. I had a NAS and my drives were failing. I didn't lose data but very slow performance when the raid was rebuilding :)

Google photos allows you to share images. If you have an Android phone, your pictures are likely getting backed up to google photos.

That said, if you link to a photo on google photos and eventually your google account is closed, the photos you linked will disappear from AK Forums forever. It is best to upload the photos directly to AK Forums so they will be there long after you are not.

The to people using Photobucket: please stop. The crap they splatter all over the photos renders them all but useless.

I don't use any hosting service. First, I don't take a lot of photos. Second, I regularly go through my pics on my phone and purge a lot. I post directly to AK from my phone.

That works too! I just like to keep a backup just in case photos get purged

I totally get it. I used Photobucket and disliked it. Google photos is a nice option but like you said, sometimes you might be at risk of losing your photos if the account is closed. I wonder how much storage AK has to host all these photos :) Recently I have been using photo hosting servers like imgdepot to keep all my photos secured. I have private albums i just share with my family and I have public Audio photos to share with my AK family :)
