What is a good amp to pair with the JBL Studio Monitor 4408A ?

What is a good amp to pair with the JBL Studio Monitor 4408A ? The spec sheet says they are 89db sensitivity. Will my 30 watt Marantz 2230 be enough power for low volume listening in a small room? Any other amp suggestions? What is you opinion on these speakers? Most of the AK postings on them are positive. Thanks.

Your Marantz will get you to around 91dB average output, with peaks of 103dB , assuming you maintain 12dB headroom "reserve" and a listening distance of 8 feet in a smallish room. For most folks, this is plenty loud enough and will gve you enough headroom for most music. So for more moderate listening levels and/or more near-field placement, you will be just fine. Effectively, you'll just have more headroom for peaks....a good thing.

I own the Marantz .Someone local to me is selling the JBL 4408A.

you won't know unless you hear them for yourself. If the price is reasonable, get them. If for some reason you don't like them, JBL does not lose value

I picked them up today for a good price. I will give them a quick listen before I put in fresh foam surrounds. Eveything on them look original and the foam surrounds are looking pretty shot.

If I had my choice I would pick the direct couple Mcintosh MC 752 or 754 as they both have Power Guard to keep a lid on things. Then I would use an Rane TX 44 equalizer Sub woofer crossover and add a nice strong 15 inch sub with built in power amp to produce the spectrum below 60 hz. Of course you will want a JBL sub.
