What is it about Klipsch....

As many of you....I have heard a LOT of speakers in my day!
One brand I have never really heard (listened to their newer ventures)
is Klipsch.

What is it about Klipsch that draws you to them?
What Klipsch should I be looking for in the $500 range?

Anyone in the Portland area care to "devirginize" my ears to Klipsch?

I like the efficiency and balance of the Klipsch Heritage series. I have a set of 1980 Cornwalls that just fill my room with a nice balanced tone. They don't seem to overemphasize any particular range. My Heresies don't have the bass that the Cornwalls have, but still have the nice balanced tone. Efficiency is one of their greatest assets, which is why they are so well liked by the tube crowd.
 
I think they sound great...I particularly like the Heritage and extended Heritage speakers...in the $500 range look for perfect condition Heresys/Heresy IIs, Quartets, Forte'/Forte' IIs, others can be found but you will be finding a rarer deal on them...good luck...

Bought my Forte II's in that range then did a few Crites mods. I have heard/owned an awful lot of speakers over the years and none stuck in my craw like a pair of Cornwalls I heard back in the mid seventies. That experience stuck with me all these years and I can honestly say no other speaker has. Still don't own a pair yet but these days that will last only as long as it takes to have some advertised semi locally for a decent.....a hell, just in reasonable driving range, like 200 miles.
 
I first discovered Klipsch when I was looking around for speakers for the Decware Zen...high efficiency with good midbass potential was very important. And the Forte IIs I had for a while definitely did that...

I made the mistake of listening to K-horns, though :D
 
Having built a set of 10 tube amps I needed a speaker!

I gave the Klipsch Forte's a spin.

They have never left my amps other than comparisons to other loudspeakers.

Since mine are highly modified. And perhaps one of the best sounding pairs in the world as suggested by some. You might consider a pair :yes:

They have a small footprint and the capacity of big sound.

Sound varies a lot from model to model so try and listen to a variety of models and electronics powering them. Mac for SS is very popular.

Also I would seriously consider a pair of these!

A little more modern look to them and very ripe for serious modification's!

They have a similar crossover to the Forte's which is pretty simple allowing one to use some of the worlds more exotic crossover parts.

And IMO Klipsch's do best with tubes a match made in heaven as tube lovers would say but to each their own!

I have a pair of Fortes, and I dont think Ill ever get rid of em. Theyre fantastic, and with the Crites networks and titanium tweeters, they sound even better. I paid $200 for mine, and plunked down about $300 for the upgrades. Its the best $500 Ive spent in my audio hobby.
 
Incredible efficeincy which results in less wear and tear on your amplifier. Sounds great at either low or high volumes. Not just a "rock" speaker, although they excel at it, they sound just as good with jazz, acoustic music or what have you.
Tremendous bang for the buck. $400-$500 should get you a pair of Heresy in excellent shape, depending on age and model, a touch more for some Fortes and in the $600-$700 range Chorus or Cornwalls are obtainable, which will make you quite happy.:music:

For me, The Heritage line is tops. Having owned most of them, except Belle's, you can't go wrong. There is a speaker for every room, every amp, every source, and plenty of nice finishes to choose from. If you need a part or want to upgrade, no problem, call Bob! Klipsch is one of the few speaker companies that remembers its roots and still makes classic design speakers from their past. Name another speaker company that dose that!

My curent two channel system for my small room, box stock Heresy II's in oiled oak w/cane grills, HH Scott 299B integrated tube amp and any source you care to feed them with, it's all good!:yes:
 
I certainly love my Forte's. The thing that just amazed me was that they don't sound loud when they are, they just sound good. No change in the quality of the sound from quiet to ear splitting loud.

Get yourself some or if you are in the Boise area look me up for an audition. :thmbsp:

As a long time owner of LaScalas (30 years) I've always tried to describe the sound to those who have never heard them as simply "BIG". They they hear them and drop jaw! :thmbsp:
 
It's not all Klipsch for me.. the only two I really care for the sound of are the LaScalas and the Khorns..
 
I was originally drawn to Klipsch the day I entered the Stereo Shoppe in Ann Arbor some 17 years ago. I went in with a hand full of College Financial Aid Grant Money. I walked out with a set of KG 3.2 and a set of KG 4.2. What an exceptional Quadraphonic sound I had going! I'd rock house parties for years in college with those speakers! Back then I listened to a lot of Classic Rock as well as Heavy Metal. The Klipsch handled it quite easily. As my tastes refinned the Klipsch easily made the transition...they sounded good with jazz and classical. Then I upgraded to a pair of KLF-20's in 2001. They are a completely different animal than the KG's. They sound so good at low levels as well as cranked up! I run a MAC 1700 with them and it sounds excellent. In all of my years of owning Klipsch speakers I've never had any breakdowns, so the quality is there!
