What is the best glue for plastic

Hi

I need to glue together some plastic elements which are then screwed to something. I am disappointed with the German glue in yellow tube which is supposed to be good Is there anything that would make two plastic parts into one strong piece resistant to pressure or is it just fantasy?

Damn, I don't know, brittle and hard, 1970s stuff.
I think about epoxy weld or poly-cement weld?

best getting something that melts the plastic . like airfix adhesive if available . i once found some good stuff but cant remember the make was maybe uhu or bostik

Yeah, I found something that boasts it melts both surfaces and joins them this way. It has consistency of water and is only for plastics. Some guys used it for vintage repairs.

neighbour of mine welds plastic .. well sort of welds it . he has an attachment for his soldering iron thats like a foot . he gets fine brass mesh and melts the plastic through it . a proper plastic welding kit is always an option

Try Plastruct's Plastic Weld. Watery so it wicks right into all the nooks and crannies of the break. A bit pricey but works a treat.

This glue is best used in reasonably well ventilated areas
makes me think that stuff is good .

It's not at all noxious from what I recall. By which I mean it doesn't stink up my workroom. Probably just typical liability CYAing.

For some plastics, super glue works.

There are a few J-B Weld products for plastics. The J-B Weld "Plastic Bonder" product works on polyethylene and polypropylene, which most glues do not stick well to. It is a 2-part product that you mix up; it has a fairly thick consistency, if that is something you want, or want to avoid. I used it to repair cracks in a fuel sender housing in my car that was leaking fumes into the cabin, and it has held well so far, now about a year and half ago. The J-B Weld products are usually carried at big box stores, auto places, etc.

Brittle and 70s sounds like ABS. ABS pipe plumbing cement will work fine on that, and it does provide a solvent weld. Acetone will also work but you have to keep applying it since it evaporates.

I've had much better luck bridging the crack with another piece of plastic vs just trying to butt the crack together and using any sort of adhesive or solvent weld.

Used this as a kid on plastic models, broken squirting guns, etc., I would imagine it would work on turntable dust covers if that helps.

Depends SPECIFICALLY what it is, there is no one answer. Delrin and similar plastics cannot be repaired with any certainty.
