What is the point of this disintegrating foam ring?

More than one way to skin a cat .

What is it with audiophiles who don't like cats? The kittehs are much happier with the skin ON than OFF.

I adore cats!

I am curious, for the sake of impeccable accuracy, how to figure out what type/consistency of foam to get to replace these rings. It's a different type of foam than the type lining the tweeter cubbyhole, for example, which is rougher, with bigger 'pores' (and did not degrade).

Urethane foam is not known for long lifespan.

Felt might better work. Certainly far more durable.

Felt would have cost more than foam, which is likely why it was not used.

I have that same brochure! I was going to scan it and post it because I didn't think it was anywhere on the internet yet. I just joined this forum and posted on another thread about Micron speakers because General Sound was my father's company, and he designed the Micron speakers. His name was Hal Paxton.
