If i'd looked at all the pics, i'd have realized it's a bulb for the pilot light.

Actually it was for mono auto car systems. Added a dimension to the sound if not used abusively. Really fun driving on rough roads and hearing the results of the spring bouncing around. Back then a bong had a different conotation than today.

Spring reverbs were fun...especially when you drove like a madman over bouncy railroad tracks...

I sold lots of those back in the late '60s.
