Mid-Fi Crisis
Bear with me:
In an attempt to ascertain how many people have more output power than their speakers can handle or less, I propose a poll whereby you do the following calculation on your system:

Divide your output RMS by the Speaker RMS

So, my NAD3020 and my OD-11 Sonabs give an answer of (NAd=20W, Sonab=35w) 20/35 = 0.57
Then multiply by 100 to get a percentage ie 57%

It'd be quite possible to have an answer of more than 1 if your amp is more powerful than your speakers.

So, the ratings in the poll are "what percentage of your speaker capacity does your amp put out"


(please no "what does this prove" comments it's just a Poll.) :smoke:

Pioneer SA-9100's (I got two I'm special) 60-65 watts on the test card

Pioneer HPM-100's Main speakers mine are the 100 watt rated version.

Pioneer HPM-60's in the office 60 watts rated so a dead heet.
 
KEF Coda 8 max input: 100W
Yamaha CA-1010 rated maximum output: 90 or 100W @ 8 Ohms depending on what manual you read. Since the KEFs are rated at 6 Ohms, then the amp would put out approximately 100 to 110Wpc. So I'll say for sake of simplicity 100%.

Concept 16,5--165wpc
Pioneer CS-99's--80wpc(seems to go a lot louder though, they drive up to at least 130wpc without distortion/bottoming out)

That leave me around 200%.:thmbsp:
 
When I had the Klipsch's, less than 10%.

With the Fostex's, about 30% :D

Us SET guys won't win this one, lol.
 
Onkyo TX-4500, 60 WPC
Onkyo Radian III speakers, 15w nominal, 30w max.
I guess that puts me at a solid 200%.
 
Hard to say really. My L150’s recommend 300 watts as max amplifier power. My L100T’s recommend 400 watts as max amplifier power. My Yamaha M-2 does 240wpc into 8 ohms but M-2’s have been tested to put out ~380wpc into 4 ohms. I run both pairs of JBL’s at the same time, so it is a 4 ohm load. Not sure how to factor that all into one distinct calculation.
 
Well, the largest speakers in my theater are Canton Ergo 80's. The label says 180 W. The rest of the speakers are just surrounds and in-walls. I'm powering all my speakers with bridged Berringer A500's which puts out close to 500 W (so they say).
However you want to look at it, I'd be one of the guys who you'll probably pick on for going overboard.
 
Amps are Mcintosh Mc1201 1,200 watts.

Speakers are Mcintosh XRT22 250 watts.

This puts me at 480% i guess.
 
As much as I wish mfrs wouldn't put wattage ratings on speakers, as they tend to confuse people, I have to bite. ESS AMT 6 rated for up to 1000 watts peak. Pioneer SX 1250 160 wpc.
AR9 400wrms , Sansui G 9000, 160 wpc.
 
TAD 60 with winged "C" 6550C's ~60 wpc, Altec Model 18's, with 604G series drivers, recommended "operational power range" amplifier output is listed at 10-350 watts...thus giving me a value of between 600% and 17%(?)

At the 65 watts ""long term broadband max power" rating that's listed, it's ~100%.

With no test equipment, I have no real way of knowing what the actual output of the amp is, but, I'd have to say they're well matched by the way they sound together.

I polled at between 10% and 30% to reflect the max rating of the speakers.
