What Program to use in Yamaha Receiver for Dolby from TV

A quick Question.. How about this work aaround will this work for getting 5.1 from Netflix ?

Get a Blueray player with HDMI inputs( Assuming they like one with HDMI ) then hook my chromecast or firestick to the player, connect the Audio from Blueray to my receiver and Video to TV .. Now will this work ?

A player with HDMI input MAY exist, but I'm trying to think of why a player would have a HDMI input.

OTOH many, dare I say most, players these days have built in apps for NetFlix et al. If you had one of those, sure, you could feed the video from the player to your TV on HDMI and send the Dolby Digital or DTS from the player to your receiver via the coaxial connection.

I find it amazing (and other worse words) that a modern (aka made in the last 2-3 years) TV that is network capable won't support 5.1 output from the network I mean, they had to know that you want to watch something from the network didn't they???

This is what I did prior to acquiring a receiver with HDMI switching.

What do you mean by "from the network"?

Good question, and of course I was being dumb when I made that statement. :thumbsdn: I've edited my above rant. Thank you for catching that and correcting me. :thmbsp:

After finally downloading the users manual I see that this is a 2008 model TV without network capability. And the manual is pretty sparse on details, the closest thing there to useful info is on page 24 "If your sound system has a SPDIF (optical) digital audio input you can connect it to the optical DIGITAL AUDIO OUT (white area) at the rear of the LCD HDTV. This is active when receiving audio with the program being viewed no matter what input is being used.".

The TV supports digital input through HDMI and digital coax. Page 13.

Still Analyzing

Well now I think the only option I have is to sell this receiver in CL and get one receiver with HDMI input.. My main media comes from XMBC via amazon Firestick !! I cant wait to get this 5.1 working !!
