What should I replace a Sony TA-E900 with?

I have been using a Sony TA-E900 preamplifier for many years and have loved it because, to my mind, it has the perfect balance of musicality and detail. It is not too warm and mushy like some valve amps and not too harsh and 'in your face like some solid state ones. Unfortunately it now seems to have reached the end of it's life and I think I will have to replace it, because I don't think the various modules can be repaired or replaced.
Could anyone suggest another preamp which would have the same kind of sound and is not too expensive?

hmmm, this looks like a seriously nice preamp ! Are those modules completely sealed and the insides inaccessible ?
I would try to get it fixed, what are the symptoms ?
 
Yes, the modules are completely sealed. However, there are a lot of capacitors, resistors and other components around the modules. The main problem right now is that when you start playing, the sound from the right channel is depressed and also distorted. Then after its been playing for about 15-30 minutes it seems to become all right. So, although I am not a technical guy at all, I am wondering if the problem is in one the capacitors outside of the modules. The other, relatively minor problem is that the volume control knob and some of the switches make a noise when operated.
Any ideas as to repair would be most welcome, as also would any any suggestions as to the best replacement.
