What speakers are these?

Someone is selling following speakers for $25. I intend to use these in garage.

The person says that he has no information about the speakers. There is no label or logo on them. He does not even know what brand these are..

Worth trying? How do I test? Take my receiver?

Look very similar to a pair of Quasar's I had in the late 70's, except mine had tweeter control and a 3-port bass below the main woofer. They may be a slightly different model but, I'm leaning toward Quasar's.
 
Look like craptastic Panasonic Thrusters. Keep looking -- I've found AR and Pioneer speakers on the curb on trash night, as well as EPI and Wharfdales at the thrift.
 
Probably came with an all-in-one set from a department store (JC Penny, Sears, etc.) You will probably just have to hear them for yourself to see if they are any good.

I guess for $25 and you plan to put them in your garage you're not out much if you don't like them. I would test them with your receiver or an amp to make sure they're not blown.
 
If they are Quasar's like the ones I had years ago don't expect too much sound wise. They definitely look like they were part of an all-in-one set and will probably be very shrill on the high end with very little bass and balance.
 
I was just re-reading the OP's post..

Ya know.. for $25, I would bet they would make a good garage speaker if you had the room.. No biggie if they get messed up..
 
here's an idea for about the same $$ ... around here we have spring clean up where people are allowed to put items out on the curb ....I just got a pr of small energy speakers with bad surrounds ...they go for around $100$150 used .......I'm fixing them up for my 9 yr old son's system
 
I don't think they are worth 25. Probably have a 1/4 inch masonite back which is actually the part that produces the most bass (noise, but bass noise). Hang on to your 25 bucks and wait for something better or cheaper.
 
Here is the deal: garage speakers should be just as good as what you have in your living room, except that they've been cosmetically damaged and can't live in the house anymore. If they get more cosmetically damaged while in your garage, no biggie; they are there to be heard, not to be seen.

The one's you're looking at for $25 aren't going to make the cut. PM me with the Craigslist location nearest you and I can send some suggestions your way. And/or take that $25 and use it for a membership here. Then you can make use of the members only section and may wind up with better speakers in the garage than you have in the house.
